The Trump admin wanted to ROLLBACK more striingent Obama admin car emission standards which should help in climate change efforts in this country…
Now?
Trump’s Justice Department wants to question that four auto companies got together to possibly save the climate with cars that use less gas ?
The Justice Department has reportedly launched an antitrust investigation into four automakers that defied the Trump administration in signing a deal with California on vehicle emissions standards.
The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the situation, said DOJ lawyers are looking at whether Ford Motor, Honda Motor, BMW and Volkswagen “violated federal competition law by agreeing with each other to follow tailpipe-emissions standards beyond those proposed by the Trump administration.”
Ford confirmed in an emailed statement that it’s been contacted by DOJ on the matter.
“We have received a letter from the Department of Justice and will cooperate with respect to any inquiry,” the company said. The DOJ declined to comment.
Volkswagen declined to comment on the investigation, saying that it’s in regular contact with U.S. authorities. BMW and Honda didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
The deal between the automakers and the nation’s largest vehicle market in the U.S. was announced in July. The deal included relaxed standards instead of a freeze to the Obama administration’s rules — something most major automakers have supported.
No major automakers has supported a freeze of the Obama-era standards, although many have supported a reevaluation of the rules to address current market conditions of lower gas prices, all-electric vehicles and increased sales of trucks and SUVs…

It was bad enough that Republicans were lackadaisical about environmental issues in the past.
Now?Under Trump and this motley collection of right wing toads like the petty little grifter Scott Pruitt and other stooges for the so called “energy sector,” we find them now opposing moves that would ,without any scientific doubt ,be environmentally friendly and that ,even the industries affected by the rules aren’t opposed to !
Once again ,as I will continue to point out, with Republicans? If “libruls “are for it?Theyre agin it.

I haven’t lived in the Golden State for 27 years, but since the late 1950’s the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has enjoyed very broad support from a wide spectrum of Californians. They are generally more proud of the state’s stringent air-quality rules (even when they cost individuals more money) than annoyed by them.
In the 25 years (1966-92) that I did live in the Bay Area, the effects of cleaner emissions were dramatic and very welcome; the smaze that would be trapped (like L.A.’s) over the Bay by the surrounding hills practically disappeared and the view across San Francisco Bay (or up into those hills) far more enjoyable.
I don’t know if Keith grew up in the Bay Area, but perhaps, as current resident, he could comment on my impressions.

I forgot to add that it became far less of a strain, and far more pleasing, to breathe the Bay Area’s air after those emission controls (on businesses and institutions as well as motor vehicles) kicked in.

I grew up in Chicago and then lived in DC Dave for many years, but over our last ten years in Northern California I have gotten to appreciate the clean air (wild fires notwithstanding).
I particularly appreciate that air being in London this month. While the Brits have made strides, the air here is much dirtier than California.
The folks at Justice are simply being assholian.

EPA will formally announce on Wednesday that it is revoking the Obama-era waiver allowing California to enforce more stringent greenhouse gas emissions standards on new cars than the federal government sets
