That’s NOT all….
The Trumpworld people are also trying to move reporters away from Trump to Biden and even Hillary Clinton in addition to the whistleblower…
Republican senators scrambling to protect President Trump from a formal impeachment inquiry are attacking the credibility of the whistleblower who filed a complaint.
GOP lawmakers are asserting the whistleblower did not have firsthand knowledge of the actions detailed in the complaint and question whether the person had a political agenda.
“It doesn’t come from a person with personal knowledge. It’s like I heard these people say this, and now I’m reporting it. I think that is pretty bizarre,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).
“Secondly, after a certain point, it doesn’t just allege facts, it really is kind of a dossier or political diatribe, so I think there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical. Having said that, we are in the process of talking to the director of national intelligence and the inspector general.”
Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who has had a reputation for protecting whistleblowers, said the one at the center of the Trump impeachment inquiry didn’t necessarily deserve protections.
“If they are not really a whistleblower, they don’t get the protection,” he said.
The remarks from Grassley, Cornyn and other senators echo arguments coming from Trump, but stand in stark contrast to the testimony last week from acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire, who said the whistleblower acted in good faith…..
In a letter to Barr released on Monday, Johnson (R-Wis.) and Grassley (R-Iowa) pressed the Justice Department to probe any connection between Clinton and Ukrainian operatives. They said they have “concerns about foreign assistance in the 2016 election that have not been thoroughly addressed.”…

And these people are going to vote to remove Trump from office?
jamesb says
He, he, he…..
NOT at THIS Time…if Ever?
Scott P says
As George Takei said Trump burned down the house and Republicans are going after the person who called the Fire Department.
Another reason that voting for the Democratic ticket next year is the only option if you truly want to replace Trump.
CG says
but that means voting for Trump could be the only option if you want to prevent a Democrat as President…..
My Name Is Jack says
Isn’t that pretty much your position as to why Republicans will vote for Trump?
Contrarily, my position is that the vast majority of Republicans (80-90%) will vote for him because they actually support him, warts and all.
CG says
Yeah for many. They will not consider themselves though as voting *for* Trump as much as voting against the Democrat. I don’t agree with it anymore than I agree with Scott’s axiom.
People should think long and hard before they vote.
None of my fellow anti-Democrats should vote for Trump unless they are willing to accept everything that comes along with it.
None of my fellow anti-Trumpers should vote for a Democrat unless they are willing to accept everything that comes along with it.
If you vote a certain way and that side wins, and you wind up being very unhappy with them in office, it makes it a lot harder to complain if you know you actually voted for them.
People should vote their conscience. There will be millions of others sharing in the duty, and then let the chips fall where they may.
My Name Is Jack says
That all or nothing approach may satisfy your view of things.
I highly doubt many people vote for anyone believing that they are going to agree with them all the time or support everything that candidate does if elected.
Indeed, based on your view, anti Trumpers essentially shouldn’t vote at all.
CG says
No, they should find or create a better option.
It really would be weird if someone wins and you hate almost everything they do, but it turns out you voted for them.
People should do their duty as a citizen and vote, but vote their conscience.
Then, let the pro-Trump people or the actual Democrats own the outcome and what comes with it.
My Name Is Jack says
How are they going to “create a better option?”
You can slice this anyway you want ,the realistic options are four more years of Trump or the Democratic nominee.
Apparently you are heading for the netherworld of third party adherents with their a pox on both houses and a faux sense of moral superiority.
Have fun with that.
Scott P says
I’m the real world we have 2 options. Trump or the Democrat. Pick wisely.
jamesb says
i’m with Scott….
Two basic options
Zreebs says
And if you choose not to vote again And Trump wins, then recognize that even more establishment Republicans will likely be replaced by Trump Republicans – if not Democrats.
Zreebs says
After today’s incredible news cycle, i am far less convinced that Trump will even be the GOP nominee. I now think that the impeachment hearings will reveal even more corruption that Republicans running for re-election will be unable to defend. People who testify will be worrying about covering their own ass – and Trump won’t Be the only one going down.
Republicans like Gym Jordan – who have spent a good part of their life ignoring what is goung on in front of their face, have looked horrible and corrupt in news interviews as they defend corruption and advance theories that I don’t think they really believe.
jamesb says
I agree there IS ALREADY MORE underhanded ‘secret’ stuff being exposed….
It STILL is about the polling and the Public….
My Name Is Jack says
I disagree.
Republicans have become inured to Trumps corrupt ways .They no longer care.Indeed, they have become part of it.To criticize Trump is essentially to criticize themselves. This they can’t do.
Trump it appears will likely be impeached. He will be acquitted in the Senate with maybe three or four Republicans voting to convict. He will be renominated at a raucous Republican Convention replete with outrageous lies and conspiracy theories abounding.
Then the American people have a choice to make.
And therein lies the future of our country.
Scott P says
I’m sure CG will be delighted by Zreebs comment that the GOP will turn it’s back on Trump and nominate someone else next year.
My thoughts are closer to what Jack predicts. It’s possible that a few more than 3 or 4 Republican Senators vote to convict but not much more than that. A few may even openly suggest that Trump step down but most of the party will be all in. It will get ugly and Trump and his minions like Lindsey Graham will be ever more agitated. But the cult will not fade away.
Zreebs says
I said I am far less convinced that Trump will be renominated. That is different than saying he won’t be renominated. I give Trumps odds at renomination to be 50-50. That implied I expect more to come out soon .
Scott P says
My apolpgies Zreebs.
If I had to assess odds I’d say I’m 85% certain Trump will be the nominee. Before last week I was at 95%.
I don’t think Trump could be defeated but I think there’s an ever so sligbt chance that he’ll simply “declare victory” and announce he’s stepping aside.
My Name Is Jack says
I concur.
jamesb says
I do NOT believe any GOPer in the Senate would vote to convict and I do Not think Manchin and Jones will either
jamesb says
Good One Jack!
Keith2018 says
These are all good points, but I tend to agree that, in the end, the American voters will have to remove Trump from office. Hopefully they will take lots of enabling Republican officials with him.
From what I see on-line, and I know that’s not totally reflective of Republican opinion, most Republicans think that this is all Joe Biden’s fault. And Trump was only asking a question. The deflection machine is in full swing.
People forget that for every awful thing this Administration does, there are Republicans there doing them, enacting this horrible far right policies. Steven Miller has a real constituency in the Republican Party. So does lying Mike Pompeo, Republicans like that he’s attempting to dismantle the State Department. So it’s not a stretch to think the vast majority of the Party will stick with Trump. So while I hope Zreebs is right, I fear no one of stature will take on Trump.
All we’ve heard are “concerns” when Trump has actually confessed to a crime and it seems one he keeps repeating.
Yep, no profiles in courage for the Know-nothing Party.
