When Trump moved into the American Presidency we all held our breath….
People were scared….
Foreign Leaders tried to talk to him, to get on his ‘good’ side….
No More…
They see Donald Trump for who has always been….
A un- sophisticated guy looking solely to make money…
We’re ALL happy he hasn’t started a new war…
But he REALLY is in over his head in his current job….
Within the government and Congress there where efforts continue with how modern American President’s operated…
Nope…
Donald Trump NEVER worked in a enviropemt that had a large management footprint…
He’s an old rich guy in his 70’s (like Biden and sanders folks)
He is NOT gonna change who he is…
So as we have watched?
Donald Trump has continued to run HIS Presidency by the seat of his pants…
Gone are the ‘experts’…
Like his Real Estate business?
He has surrounded himself with lackies and ‘yes’ guys…
Like in his Real Estate business?
He has done mostly what HE wants to do skirting the law and norms..
In addition?
He does NOT the ability to embrace internationalism…
His early forays into foreign affairs have been failures…
His efforts now against Iran and China also…
He longs for sitting down and making ‘deals’ with people who now have his number and seem to be willing to wait until he may lose his job and somebody like Joe Biden comes into office who would a guy would know how things are done…
In many ways, it’s the presidency Trump has always wanted.
He’s at the center of the action. He’s fully in command. And he’s keeping world leaders on edge and unsure of his next moves, all without being hemmed in by aides or the traditional strictures of a White House.
After four national security advisers, three chiefs of staff, three directors of oval office operations and five communications directors, the president is now finding the White House finally functions in a way that fits his personality. Trump doubters have largely been ousted, leaving supporters to cheer him on and execute his directives with fewer constraints than ever before.
“It is a government of one in the same way in which the Trump Organization was a company of one,” said a former senior administration official.
“In the first year in office, President Trump was new to the job. He was more susceptible to advisers and advice. There were more people urging caution or trying to get him to adhere to processes,” the former senior official added. “Now, there are very few people in the White House who view that as their role, or as something they want to try to do, or who even have a relationship with him.”
This Presidency of One is now heading into an election year supported by campaign staffers and White House aides who are quick say Trump is the best political strategist as well as the most effective messenger, and they intend to follow his lead wherever 2020 goes.
“It’s very easy, actually, to work with me. You know why it’s easy? Because I make all the decisions. They don’t have to work,” Trump told reporters last Friday as he explained why being his national security adviser, in his mind, is now a low-key post. Trump fired his third such adviser, John Bolton, last week, and he named a new national security adviser on Wednesday morning by tweet….

The Trump Administration is going after a Middle Eastern studies course at the University of North Carolina for portraying Islam too positively.
So glad to have limited government conservatives sticking their noses in a college syllabus!

So much for academic freedom and the wall of separation.
“The citizens of the United States of America have a right to applaud themselves for having given to mankind examples of an enlarged and liberal policy—a policy worthy of imitation. All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship.
“It is now no more that toleration is spoken of as if it were the indulgence of one class of people that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent natural rights, for, happily, the Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance, requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens in giving it on all occasions their effectual support.”

Meanwhile Charles Koch is admitting his campaign against Trump’s trade war with China isn’t working and he is going to shift strategies.
Of course it isn’t working. In 2019 conservatism is what Trump says it is.

Koch is learning the lesson that a lot of what passes for “conservative leadership “ has learned over the past few years.
There now exists a vast gulf between them and their presumed “followers.” Many of these people who broadly define themselves as “conservative “ are far less enamored of all the shibboleths Of “movement conservatism” and far more into the gut anti liberal stuff.
They have adopted Trump as their leader and are, as Scott alluded to above, essentially allowed him to lay out the “conservative line” and that’s what they follow. Some of it may coincide with Koch’s ideas, lower taxes for the wealthy, less regulation on polluters, etc.;however , lots of it strays from generally accepted conservative principles,ie,Tariffs, racial antagonism, little adherence to so called “values, “etc.
Their guiding principle seems to be:Trump says it.I believe it and we are the “real” conservatives.”
Sorry, Charlie!

Trump was being Trump today by suggesting that he could “end the war” in Afghanistan by presumably using nuclear weapons.
No word from Republicans today if they would support this.
