Scott is a Black Republican in a Red state…..
His uneasiness is shared by more and more Republicans everyday….
In three years, Republican U.S. Sen. Tim Scott will be up for reelection in South Carolina, but he will also be facing something else: his last political run.
During The Post and Courier’s “Pints and Politics” event Thursday, Scott announced he had no interest in running for political office after 2022.
“I plan to run for reelection, but that will be my last one, if I run,” Scott said, eliciting gasps and a few claps from the audience of more than 250 people.
Asked if he had interest in running for governor, a frequent political question posed to Scott due to his appeal among the GOP, the senator replied with a straightforward, “No.”
Scott’s announcement is in line with an early promise he made in 2014, shortly after he took the oath of office on the floor of the U.S. Senate.
At the time, Scott told reporters from his home state that he favored term limits and would impose one on himself. He promised to finish out the final two years of former Sen. Jim DeMint’s term and then hoped to be reelected to two, full six-year terms.
But in the context of modern Southern political history, Scott’s decision to limit his time in Congress is an unusual move.
“The typical move by Southern members of Congress, especially in the 20th century, was to get in early, stay in for a long time, get a prestigious committee assignment, and then get seniority so that you can have an impact,”….

Well, this is along way out.
Scott has never really been a political animal ,so his comments are not that surprising and he did express himself as being in favor of term limits when he assumed the position.
A few people I have talked to today ,Republicans all, still believe he will run for Governor (He actually could in 2026 ,with two years left on his Senate term).
Scott has the status of an icon.Hes unbeatable in S.C.

A few days ago I was talking with a Republican friend of mine who laid out the following scenario:
Trump loses in 2020 to a ticket of Biden and Kamala Harris.
In 2024 Biden ,then in his Eighties, doesn’t seek a second term and Harris seizes the mantle with Biden and Obama s blessing.
The Republicans nominate Scott and set up a Black v. Black General Election.Scott wins the Republican base and, while not winning a majority of the Black vote, manages to double the usual Republican Black vote(from 10% to 20%) which tips states like Michigan and Pa into the GOP column and reproduces the Trump victory of 2016!
We both shared a cool one and I verbally dismissed his fantasy. After awhile I said, “well whoever thought Donald Trump would ever be elected President?” We laughed and had another cool one!

I AM not surprised with the Harris VP choice….
I had her first…But I’m thinking Warren might get it…
Both would help with women for Biden….But Biden doesn’t really need Harris for diversity….
But she IS tough…
Warren would be a better fit as a hound on the rich, which is what she REALLY only wants deep down…
Biden would do good with a women VP for sure….
The one term thing IS gonna be BIG in the background…
I too believe that Trump IS a one term President….
A Black Republican for President WOULD be VERY interesting and a DIRECT repudiation of Trumpism…
I doubt THAT would work in just 2 to 4 years….

Yeah Jack after 2016 I discount nothing. Maybe after 4 years in the wilderness the Republican Party will want to put the Trump fiasco behind them. Maybe suburbanites who turned against Trump will embrace an African American Republican of substance like Tim Scott.
If that scenario were to come true it would pretty much set in stone the theory after 2016 that it’s easier to be black and win the White House than be a woman and do the same!

THAT it WOULD Scott…..
