Hmmmmm?
While Elizabeth Warren would be one….
Kamala Harris would fit both?
Both will get questioned about this and be outraged I suspect…
But Biden IS trying out something here….
(He’s gotta win the nomination to be in position to have to make the choice)
Former vice president Joe Biden has been leading the Democratic field in most polls since he entered the race, but even he acknowledges that he’s a long way from winning the nomination. If he does, Biden said it would be ideal for his ticket to reflect the diversity of the American population.
The presidential hopeful told a small group of black journalists Tuesday that if he wins the nomination, he’d prefer that his vice presidential candidate not be a white male.
Asked by Washington Post reporter Vanessa Williams whether it would be important to him to select a running mate who reflects diversity, Biden replied: “Whomever I pick, preferably it will be someone who was of color and/or a different gender, but I’m not making that commitment until I know that the person I’m dealing with I can completely and thoroughly trust as authentic and on the same page [as me].”….

I’d say if Biden wins the nomination it is a certainty that a woman or minority is VP.
2004 will be remembered as the year of the last all white male Democratic ticket.
My Name Is Jack says
I agree .
Yes, the days of an all male Democratic ticket are over.
Ironically 2020 may be the last all male Republican ticket as well, assuming the Trump- Pence ticket .
jamesb says
I think a Biden/Warren ticket would probably be the best….
Although Kamala Harris IS a twofer?
Biden already has the Black vote…
And Harris is back down in the single digits…
Warren would be the best fit…
As I posted here…
She is going behind the scene’s to assure the Democratic establishment types that she HAS been a team player…
She’s 10 years younger then the top guys…
And she would bring a big business countering point of view that would be helpful to the everyday consumer…
Yea…
I’d make her the odds on choice for a Biden choice….
CG says
I very much doubt Biden would pick Elizabeth Warren. She is only a few years younger than him. He would need to pick someone significantly younger. Perhaps Harris would be a possibility, if they can work out their differences.
My early “prediction” is that the ticket will be Warren/Harris.
Scott P says
If Warren ends up the nominee I like Julian Castro for VP.
Significantly younger, Hispanic, possibly helps nudge Texas inti the blue column.
CG says
Warren would carry Texas at the top of the ticket?
Scott P says
It’ll be uphill for any Democrat to take Texas in 2020 IMO. But Warren is looking more “electable” all the time. In the right conditions she could carry it.
Who would have thought a black Democrat named Barack Obama would win Indiana or North Carolina in 2007?
CG says
Well, Indiana and North Carolina had a very recent tradition of electing Democrats as Governor at the time. I am pretty sure Democrats controlled the legislative majorities in those states at the time too.
Not one single Democrat has won statewide in Texas in well over a generation. It’s been solidly Republican down the line.
Would Elizabeth Warren be the first? That would be quite a development.
My Name Is Jack says
Texas is becoming more competitive for the Democrats.
Winning there next year would be a stretch though.
However,by 2024,Texas could very well be moving toward swing state status.
jamesb says
Democrats would need a miracle to get Texas
CG says
Now, had Hillary been forced out of the 2016 race bccause of James Comey found, Biden could have been slated to replace her. He was saying he would have picked Warren in that circumstance.
They would be in the White House today instead of Trump. (Clintons don’t like to quit though.)
My Name Is Jack says
“Biden already has the Black vote.”
That could be said of any Democrat.but misses the point.
Hillary had the Black vote too.The problem?Far less Blacks turned out in 2016 than in 08 and 12 with Obama heading the ticket.Had they done better, then she would probably have carried Wisconsin,Pa., And Mich. and won the election.
That,in my view ,is why Harris may be more valuable than Warren as aVP candidate. Her ability to rally Black women in particular makes her a valuable commodity .Why you believe that her lagging polling as a presidential candidate has anything to do with choosing aVP candidate is a mystery to me.
CG says
Without trying to sound mean to james personally, we all need to acknowledge that despite his well-intentioned interest in the topic, he really doesn’t understand or know much about politics.
jamesb says
No , on the Back vote and Harris….
Biden’s support in the Black community and voter base eclipses her’s by miles….
He does NOT need her….
My guess is her likable’s are just not there in general and even among minorities…
Biden beats her in California her home state…
Why to relate this to the VP choice?
Warren vying for second place brings more of the party vote ….
Simple….
In governance she is more valuable in being a Senator….
Harris does have more executive experience though…

:
Black: Biden 46, Sanders 10, Warren 10, Harris 7
18-34: Sanders 31, Warren 25, Biden 10, Harris 6
White College+: Biden 29, Warren 25, Harris 11, Sanders 9
White College-: Biden 30, Warren 20, Sanders 19, Harris 3
Like I said guys….
Biden does NOT need Harris…
He could do GOOD with Warren….
My Name Is Jack says
Like I said, and amusingly , this is about turnout.,something you are always harping on.
Hillary lost because the Black turnout was down.
Black voters are not going to be motivated by a professorial White female Senator, but they might be motivated by the first Black female candidate on a national ticket.
That’s the point.
Keith says
I completely agree with Jack on Harris. But then, Jack understands politics.
As for Biden having the black vote (in the primary) all tied up, he does until he doesn’t. Hillary Clinton had it tied up in 2008 until she lost Iowa.
Obviously the introduction of a person of color (Booker or Harris) will goose turnout in the African American community in the general. But, a black woman on the ticket will have a small adverse impact on black male turnout, just ask Stacy Abrams. It happened with Hillary too, black women were very loyal, but there was a larger fall off with men.
This isn’t over by any stretch of the imagination.
As far as Texas is concerned, I think Trump is beginning to approach levels of Cruz disgust in Texas, and it will depend on many factors, especially young voters if he could be beaten there.
We leave this evening for an extended visit to family and friends in Great Britain (before it becomes England). We picked an interesting time to visit. The new Eatonian asshole Prime Minister is playing hardball on a hard Brexit. I assume that the other parties will force an election sooner than later.
Still waiting for any so-called leader of the Republican Party to denounce Trump, or even be mildly critical. Profiles in courage.
There is a clown car of nobodies running against Trump, led by a very racist and conflicted guy named Joe Walsh, a reformed teabagger. How shameful. Where is Saint Mitt when we need him?
Just another reason to be a true American next year and vote for the Democratic Presidential candidate, no matter who that might be, as the only way to remove this cancer from the White House.
I will post from time to time. Have a good evening!
jamesb says
How many blacks vote in Iowa?
How many in NH?
How man in SC?
I’ve been saying here for some time…
Nevada, SC and California WILL seal the nomination…Biden leads the pack in these states. How man in SC?..
Harris TRAILS Biden and Sanders in SC…
Travel safe Keith…
Keep pushing!
CG says
Sad news for the Dog…
Kirsten Gillibrand is dropping out of the Presidential race…
jamesb says
Ha, ha, ha….
Isn’t that too damn bad????
She has made it known she would accept the VP spot…
Hmmmm?
Scott P says
Wise move. All the others who didn’t qualify for the next debate shoukd also plan their exit strategy
jamesb says
True That….
jamesb says
The race is actually among only a half a dozen ….
And the race may actually only be about , as we pointed out ….the VP spot…
Wait?
I mean the actual race is among the top 3 or 4?
CG says
They need to be forced to publicly acknowledge that the people want Andrew Yang more than them,
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I’d like to see more of Kamala Harris in the debates (and for that matter, in a Sunday or late-night TV show), but — sexist as I must be — I don’t find her very likeable. That’s mainly because of her cheap shot at Joe Biden in the first debate, but also because of her general style.
Elizabeth Warren (forgive me, any women who’ve come across this site by accident) still comes across as still a little shrill. I wasn’t keen on her first Senate campaign either, but she’s basically proved my doubts wrong.
Amy Klobuchar, as I’ve written her before, does come across to me as calmer and more convincing as the first female Commander in Chief — even though I disagree with many of her policy preferences, for which she at least makes a good argument.
If that’s true for me, a democratic socialist who’s lived in leftish college towns most of his life and known many Berkeley High School graduates of all races, how would the individual persuadable voter of either sex feel ?
jamesb says
I second ur feeling about Harris DSD…
It maybe the reason that absent the debate stunts she polls rather poorly…
Democratic Socialist Dave says
As if they follow PoliticalDog101 by the hour, this just arrived in my in-box. (Members of Democratic Socialists of America endorsed Bernie by about 3 to 1, although my own doubts are beginning to increase after his unpersuasive interview on Face the Nation last Sunday. “YDSA” below refers to the Young DSA.) I’m sure that the right-wing/Trumpista noise machine will play this up as much as possible, especially as another DSA member, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has become their red-brown target of especial intensity.)
“If there is going to be class warfare in this country, it’s about time the working class won that war.”
— Bernie Sanders
Bernie Sanders is gaining momentum! Between his historic Green New Deal proposal, visionary workplace democracy plan, liberatory racial justice proposals and commitment to Medicare for All, millions of working people are rising up to support Sanders’ agenda. That means millions of people are open to democratic socialism and DSA — if we take the opportunity to talk with them about the REAL issues.
Democratic Socialists for Bernie Campaign Launch September 7, 8, 9 Graphic: People of all ages and abilities excitedly talking about Bernie with their neighbors.
That’s why we’re proud to officially launch our DSA/YDSA for Bernie campaign on September 7-9! It’s time to fight for the election of the first Democratic Socialist president. We know that Bernie can’t win without us. And we can’t grow at the level we need without bringing new people in through this campaign. So we’re going out into the field and to campuses around the country to show DSA and YDSA’s power when we take action together.
Sign up for a special Pre-Launch Call on Tuesday night!
Every day more chapters are signing up for the launch. And with a goal of 100 DSA/YDSA events around the country, there’s still room for more! EVERY chapter event propels our work forward and helps you talk to people about DSA and Bernie. Sacramento DSA recently had a unique opportunity to sign up 400 people outside a Bernie rally! The same power and skills you build by running an independent DSA for Bernie campaign can be turned towards all of our work.
Our independent campaign’s success will also depend on deep YDSA commitment and action. So if you’re a student, please sign up for the fall drive to make sure your campus is part of this launch! …

I think the DSA needs to specify the preferred pronouns for Sanders and everyone else they mention in their release.
How dare they!
Democratic Socialist Dave says
poor form, no doubt, to omit Comrade before the Senator’s name (and in my introduction, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’)
jamesb says
One would expect fellow socialists to be looking to give Sanders support….
As with everything?
Some will not…
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Actually, CG, that wasn’t a public release, but an e-mailing to DSA & YDSA members. No doubt a press release for your indirect benefit would be more consistent with its honorifics.
CG says
Did you see the viral clip of their proceedings?
jamesb says
i’d think a public release would be more GENERAL in nature….
soften any rough edges or anything to strong and attacking , unlike Bernie’s rants at times…
This roll out will be. political target rich enviromental for the GOPer’s…
