While most live in Red States of Trump country?
They are speaking out against Trump’s actions, which have them losing money from the import taxes and the Chinese going other places for farm goods….
The National Farmers Union (NFU) on Friday hammered President Trump over his escalating trade war with China, saying he is “making things worse.”
The statement came the same day as Washington and Beijing boosted tariffs in the widening dispute, with China targeting cars and farm products, further harming farmers who have already borne the brunt of the Chinese penalties.
“It’s no surprise that China is slapping even more tariffs on American products. Every time Trump escalates his trade war, China calls his bluff – and why would we expect any differently this time around? And it’s no surprise that farmers are again the target,” NFU President Roger Johnson said in a statement.
“[I]nstead of looking to solve existing problems in our agricultural sector, this administration has just created new ones. Between burning bridges with all of our biggest trading partners and undermining our domestic biofuels industry, President Trump is making things worse, not better.”
The latest escalation in the year-plus trade war took place Friday morning, when Beijing announced new tariffs on $75 billion worth of U.S. goods, saying the move was in response to measures from the U.S….
Note….
Trump is using taxpayer money to try to replace lost revenue for the framers…
But?
It will NOT be nearly enough to replace the lost product market for the farmers ….

Trump did well among the farm voters.
So he does what he said he was going to do and now they’re mad?
It never ceases to amaze me how people often vote against their own economic interest over distinctly peripheral issues.
It’s nor Always “the economy stupid.”

And Trump is working hard to shit can the economy….

In my firmer job I used to visit a lot of farms in the Midwest and East. I can’t tell you how many times I walked into a milking barn to hear Rush Limbaugb or other right wing talk radio.
A lot of these guys simply hear this stuff round the clock and vote Republican like reflex.
I expect though that while many of these farmers could never bring themselves to vote for a Democrat if the farm economies continue to suffer a fair amount may be disillusioned and not vote.
The crashed farm economy in the mid to late 80s led to even a hapless Mike Dukakis winning IA, WI, and MN by decent margins and coming close in several other midwestern states.

NOT voting would work for Democrats also….
Trump only got his job on less then 100,000 votes….
With Democrats juiced up AGAINST trump?
Every little bit helps…
As I have bantered back and forth with Jack?
I suspect some GOPer’s ARE gonna sneak ion votes for Biden or whoever the Democrat is Next November ….
My Name Is Jack says
I’ve pnever “bantered “ with you on that subject.
What we have “bantered” about is my contention that Trump is overwhekmingly popular among GOPers and that ,even many who “disapprove “ of him(around 10-15% ),would still vote for him in preference to any Democrat, even Biden.
Will a few Republicans vote against Trump in some manner? For sure,(see CG).Does that mean any Democrat will get a significant number of Republican votes? No
jamesb says
Agreed…..
I always mentioned around the edges….

His OVERALL support IS down this week….
RCP has chosen NOT to include the lower poll numbers in their average…Nut TO include Ras as usual ,…

That is why one has to be very careful about interpreting “disapproval “ of Trump into an assumption of electoral opposition.
Over at HHR ,where CG still posts ,there are several posters who vocally express their “disapproval “ of Trump, some fairly vociferously.
Yet ,these same people will admit that they will vote for him against any of the Democrats, whom they often refer to as “Socialists”
I have run into this phenomenon personally in several cases
I am unaware of any polls that have asked this further question of Republicans who “disapprove “ of him, “ would you still vote for Trump against any of the Democratic candidates?”Such would be an interesting inquiry.
jamesb says
Yes….
I wonder why they don’t pursue that….

In my view the best bet for Democrats us to turn out more of their own voters (including new voters) and convince enough of the “Trump tryers” (non partisans who in 2016 decided “what the hell–why not?”) to either vote Democrat or not at all.
As for Republicans the best I think we can hope for is some to be disillusioned enough not to vote. We aren’t turning a big number of them into Democratic voters.
jamesb says
All indications are that like 2018?
There will be a near record breaking Democratic voter turnout next November…
Democrats MUST try to peak off votes in purple and swing states from GOPer’s..
Leave NO stone unturned…
