This rise by 5% points is only from within those identifying themselves as Republican….
Among others?
His support dips due to comments against the four Democratic US House members of color….
Donald Trump’s overall support does NOT move ….
He is still a President with less then 50% of support from Americans in total….
72% is 20% points BELLOW what Trump has said his support is now….
The guy DOES thend to NOT be able tell the truth…..
Republican support for President Trump has increased 5 points since he suggested a group of minority progressive lawmakers “go back” where they came from, a Reuters/Ipsos poll finds.
The president’s net approval among Republicans now stands at 72 percent after he tweeted Sunday that the four lawmakers — thought to be Democratic Reps. Ilhan Omar (Minn.), Rashida Tlaib (Mich.), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) and Ayanna Pressley (Mass.) — should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” the poll shows.
Trump’s has support faltered among Democrats and independents, however. His net approval dropped 2 percentage points among Democrats, pollsters found, while about three in 10 independent voters now say they approve of Trump, down from four out of 10 last week.
According to the poll, the president’s overall approval did not change over the past week, despite the attacks against the lawmakers — all of whom are U.S. citizens — which have spurred widespread bipartisan backlash……
Note…
This poll indicates that prior to it’s release ?
Trump’s base support was down to 67%?
THAT would have been be a new low?
Are we actually seeing his base figure quietly dropping?
Note…
Eric Trump on Wednesday heralded his father, President Donald Trump, as “the greatest fighter in the world,” and claimed that “95 percent” of people in the U.S. support his political message even as the president has worked to beat back criticism of racist rhetoric he leveled against members of Congress….

CG says
Briefly, this sounds statistically insignificant.
Yes, Trump JA at 67% among Republicans would have been considered suspect. Now, the number is 72%, which many would also say seems smaller than what other surveys show. The number of self-identifying Republicans in this poll may be such a small subset that the MOE is fairly high.
Trump only being at 72% JA within his party at this point would be a pretty historic low for an incumbent and a sign that Democrats should be considered overwhelming favorites to beat him. Is that the case though?
jamesb says
But it’s 20% below what Trump and his son Trump Jr. are trying top0 seell to the media for his base….
And the 67%???
Again?
The guy IS a serial liar….
Scott P says
Actually I thought the same thing CG.
Scott P says
Eric Trump says gis dad has an approval ratibg of 95%.
It’s tough to be the dimmest bulb in that family but Eric seems to have achieved it!
jamesb says
72% does NOT = 95%
My Name Is Jack says
If you believe that Trumps JA among Republicans is only 72% ?Youre more naive than I thought(and that’s saying something) .
If Eric says his Dads JA among Republicans is 95%?Hes probably pretty close to being accurate.
Scott P says
From tbe way I read it Eric said his 95% of Americans agree with him.
If he meant just Republicans he would be close to right.
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah I think that’s what he meant.
Of course he is dumb as Hell so maybe he does mean all Americans!
CG says
I would say 75-80 is accurate, which is on the low end historically.
The point though was that yesterday this specific poll was cited on here yesterday as evidence that Republicans were moving in his direction after the Tweets. Perhaps that was before anyone actually saw the numbers though. We can all see now that there is some scientific problems with this poll.
On the other hand, Rasmussen, which continues to be the only tracking weekdaily tracking poll shows Trump has gone from 46% before to 50% now. I would have not expected that. They were horribly off in 2018 but were on the money in 2016.
It is very disheartening that so many people do actually like what Trump has been saying on this matter the past few days. This is exactly the kind of focus he wanted. He saw Democrats fighting amongst each other and felt left out and had to jump in. I would assume this would backfire politically on him, but who knows.
In these tribalized times, so many people feel they either need to support extremists like AOC, Omar, and Tlaib totally, in spite of some of the things they are on the record saying, or side against them with Trump no matter how completely ridiculous and overboard his claims against them are.
Too few people these days can bring themselves to see a middle ground or be willing to admit there is fault on all sides.
CG says
or be willing to defend someone as an American, and all that entails. even when you find yourself totally disagreeing with them on important matters.
My Name Is Jack says
I don’t agree with a lot of what AOC and her cohorts say;however, there is quite a bit of difference between the blabbering of some Freshmen Congresspeople and the President Of the United States telling them to essentially leave the country.
Further, I have contended for awhile that far too much is made of AOC and her muttering. She is a freshman in Congress with very little influence over much of anything other than a guaranteed spot on cable news especially when she says something controversial.
CG says
Trump’s complete intention in this is to make the “squad” the face of the party. He is trolling everyone and is able to do it successfully to some extent.
Did he literally not understand that 3 out of 4 were born in the US though (unlike his own mother and most of his wives) or is that just not relevant. He’s not much for facts. The one person who was not born in the U.S. is of course every bit as much of an American citizen as he is, no matter how despicable her views on Israel and Jewish-American influence are. There are plenty of native-born white folk who think exactly as she does on that matter.
And whatever awkward statement she made about 9/11 and received rightful criticism for, the claim that she “loves Al Qaeda” or is “pro-terrorist” is absolutely shameful beyond comprehension.
Scott P says
Demonizibg Ocasio-Cortez and “the squad” may energize the FOX News watching base (I saw one report that called AOC “catnip” for older male FOX viewers–which is pretty creepy if you think about it) but most of the swing voters that ripped the scales for Trump in 2016 are either unfamiliar with her or might actually like her as many of them are non-ideological and the thought of a bartender turned Congresswoman appeals to their disdain of career politicians.
In other words she’s no Hillary Clintin!
jamesb says
AOC has a VERY HIGH national name recognition ….
She is mentioned like 75 times a day on Fox…
jamesb says
On the AOC vs Trump difference?
I’m inclined to go with Jack…
Both Trump and AOC ARE entitled to their viewers…
But Trump IS the President…
He’s supposted to rep ALL 300 Million + Americans….
He doesn’t….
And as a judge has ruled…
His tweeter comments ARE public record….
My Name Is Jack says
I would say 85-90% is more accurate.
I understand you wanting to lowball it,however.
jamesb says
I’d take ANY polling number over a Trump or his son’s self serving numbers….
Keith says
I can guarantee that Trump’s approval is over 90% among Republicans, just look at how they voted yesterday in the House. If there was real Republican opposition out there, there would have been more Republican votes to condemn this racist asshole, and more Republican Senators would pull their heads out of their asses to criticize him. But, there weren’t, and they didn’t.
Now Rand Paul has put a hold on the 9/11 responder bill. So tell me again how those four Congresswomen of color hate America.
jamesb says
i doubt ur reasoning Keith
Lawmakers are a different breed.
i good amount KNOW Trump is inept and full of shit, but don’t dare want to put their jobs in jepority…
such is not the case for other Republicans…
Trump owns the vast majorly of voters and it’s HIS party alright…
But there IS a amount of GOOer’s, conservatives and Liberian’s that ain’t Trump people…
My Name Is Jack says
Incomprehensible.
Keith2018 says
Agreed Jack, totally incomprehensible.
CG says
He’s not at all popular in Monrovia.
Yes, as for the “political elite” office, and even average voters, they privately know and admit that there is a ton wrong with him, but they fear the alternative, whether it is the other party seizing control or in the case of Members of Congress, Trump targeting them on Twitter and causing them to lose their jobs, like Mark Sanford.
It very much resembles a hostage situation. In this case though, the hostages know they can get away if they want to, but are choosing not to, and are going to suffer even longer-term consequences perhaps because of it.
CG says
Congressman Will Hurd of Texas, the lone remaining African-American Republican in the U.S. House, is perhaps the gutsiest Member of Congress, being one of the 4 Republicans.
He barely won last time against a Democrat in a marginal border district that is traditional Democrat and is going to have a very tough race. Now, because of this vote, he is going to have an ever tougher time, either thru a Trump backed primary challenge or because Trumpists there will stay at home preferring to see the seat go Democrat.
I have long felt that Will Hurd is one of the most impressive people in politics. Hopefully, whatever happens, the party will one day elevate people like him.
Scott P says
Just how long would Hurd have to wait for the party to “elevate” him?
CG says
Things can change very fast, as we have seen in the last two years.
You guys should want Will Hurd to survive. One way or another, there will be another Republican President one day, and you might as well hope it is someone like him.
jamesb says
Donald Trump isn’t gonna change one bit…
He is incapable of doing so…
He’ll bring the whole Megilla down on top of him first….
jamesb says
Stockholm Syndrome….
CG says
Stockholm Syndrome for some. Pure survivalist dishonesty from even larger numbers.
They think this will eventually pass. One day. And they will be liberated from him again.
Many are right that if they say what they wish they could say, they will lose their jobs, and even a true Trump believer or a left-wing Democrat will have that job, depending on the circumstance.
So for now, they are Vichy-like appeasers who have decided it is better to “live on your knees than die on your feet.”
Democratic Socialist Dave says
In 286 polls since Trump’s inauguration (20 Jan 2017) among all registered voters, all voters, or all respondents, not a single one shows that most or even half (50 %) approve of his job as President. Only three of those 286 polls show that more respondents approved than disapproved (49-48 last month, 47-44 March 2017 & 48-47 Feb. 2017).

jamesb says
He KNOWS he’s NOT the President of the United States in its entirety….
My Name Is Jack says
This so called Poll is junk.
As noted ,if Trump has only a 72% approval rating among Republicans ?
He’s finished.
Most polls show his approval around 90% which is much more realistic.
jamesb says
You NOT happy is Trump’s numbers are NOT what HE says Jack?
My Name Is Jack says
I’m simply saying that this particular poll is an outlier and that almost every other poll I read about has Trumps approval in the high Eighties up to Ninety percent among Republicans.
Based on these and simple anecdotal evidence of his wide ranging support among Republicans,it is difficult to take seriously a poll that claims that a fourth Of all Republicans do not approve of his performance as President.
Further ,if this poll is right ,then Trump is in serious trouble..Everyone concedes that Trump has a narrow path to reelection. It presumes overwhelming Republican support. If a fourth are against him?It is difficult to see him having much of a chance.
I don’t believe this poll merits serious consideration.
jamesb says
I might remind u that snake oil salesmen ARE about perception….
I’d guess that his actual approval among Republicans are just south of 80%….
i do NOT believe the high 80’s to 90% numbers thrown around…
and the actual hardcore numbers where the poll puts them at…
My Name Is Jack says
What difference does it make?
On Election Day Trump will get around 90% or more of the Republican vote, even from this who “disapprove” of him.
Many of them will claim the Democrats made them do it because they’re a bunch of Socialists(although Trumps lapdog, Lindsay Graham , is now calling them, Communists, with no apologies to Joe McCarthy) .
CG says
Imagine if the Democrats decided, “gee, it might be a really good idea to find a candidate that can actually get some Republicans to come on over.”
I have said before that we can look at the relatively high number of (at least soft) Republicans who DID vote for Hillary (portions of the 2016 Dem convention definitely made a big play for these voters), but who are going to find it even more difficult to support the next Dem nominee because of their out of the mainstream views on immigration, health care, abortion, etc.
My Name Is Jack says
“Out of mainstream” of course meaning Your views on the topics mentioned.
CG says
Your views as well for the most part. You were posting on here today criticizing your party on immigration and health care, were you not?
The other issue I mentioned is abortion, so if you do indeed oppose the Hyde Amendment and think that after a baby is born, it is ok for “conversations to be held” about if it continues to live or not, I will note that we do not agree on that.
My Name Is Jack says
Support for legal abortion is certainly within the “mainstream” as you call it.
On Health Care, support for Obamacare is right around 50% ,once again in the mainstream and though I question its efficacy presently,Medicare For All has support among more than 40% ,once again well in the “mainstream”.Republicans ,except for some inanities about the “market” steadfastly refuse to talk about any actual Health Care program.
I agree that the Democrats need a comprehensive immigration program. The Trump Republican program is to build a wall and run them all out.Neither has found “mainstream “ support.
Like I said, you want aDemocratic candidate who agrees with you.We all know that isn’t going to happen. So what’s the point of this discussion?
CG says
Clearly, I was speaking specifically about federal funding for abortion and late-term abortions, or in the case of more recent discussions in the news, post-birth abortion.
The American people share my views on those matters. Full stop.
CG says
I’d want a candidate (of either or any party) who is in the mainstream. I don’t have to agree with them on everything, but if the choice is Socialism vs. White Nationalism, I think I am in my right to demand something better.
My Name Is Jack says
Clearly you are generally anti abortion and the majority of the American people are not.
Thev point is that my views are just are as in the “mainstream “ as yours.
You want to cherry pick of course.
CG says
I’ve voted for more pro-choice Republicans in Illinois (and supported them in primaries) than you can count.
I am as pragmatic as they come.
CG says
The American people when polled do not support abortion after the first trimester.
Yes, personally, I would want to protect life in the first trimester as well, but am willing to do what is necessary to achieve a greater good.
My Name Is Jack says
I’ve voted for anti abortion Democrats in S.C.
So?
CG says
Whom specifically were these SC anti-abortion Democrats? How recently?
And did you support them in statewide or Congressional primaries over pro-choice Democrats?
My point is that I do not have a pure litmus test on abortion.
But when it comes to things like the Hyde Amendment and partial birth abortion, I would and so would many other Americans who do not have my history of partisan activity and would otherwise be open to voting for a Democrat against Trump.
CG says
But by all means, let’s poll those issues heavily and see if I am “in the mainstream” or not on them.
jamesb says
THAT person is supposed to be Joe Biden CG….
My Name Is Jack says
Republicans will never vote in any significant numbers for Joe Biden.
He was Obama’s VP.
Obama was the worst President in history to most of them.
CG says
That is true. While Biden has some admirable traits personally, he was the VP of a pretty horrible President (and we are told opposed going after bin Laden even, etc.)
He also laid the path for Trump and his ilk for saying going in front of a black audience and saying that Mitt Romney wanted to “put you in chains.”
Saying that Mitt Romney (of all people) wanted to put African-Americans in chains is the sort of normalized event that gives us Trump saying that far-left Congresswomen “hate America.”
My Name Is Jack says
See.
jamesb says
Horrible Obama who is at 69% now?
Who gave the country a health plan?
who brought the country and works back from a Visg depression?
Who brought American Fireign Affairs back from people throwing bottles at Presidential limo’s?
No CG
Barack Obama wasn’t horrible
Not perfect either
Bit NOT horrible
CG says
69% personal favorability?
That’s nice. I bet former President George W. Bush is at about the same number (or at least would be if not for the Trump die-hards)
CG says
I maintain that Obama was among the worst Presidents we have ever had. Feel free to disagree.
I say the same about Trump (for many reason) , but first and foremost because he is almost certainly the worst human to ever be President.
CG says
Well, Biden keeps moving to the left and apologizing. I don’t know. Maybe he will be the strongest person you people have, but I sincerely doubt he is going to be the nominee.
jamesb says
Biden knows tha Democrats have to go left for the nomination and come back to the middle….
i seriously doubt Trump will go right and come back to the middle…
i’m hoping that will be his downfall…
jamesb says
i doubt THAT much Jack….
My Name Is Jack says
“Doubt” what?
jamesb says
Trump gets 90% come Nov 3rd, 2020
CG says
If his opponent is Bernie Sanders (which looks doubtful), he’d get 90 percent out of those left who call themselves Republicans. I wouldn’t be among them and I refuse to admit that a “centrist” candidate could not win a three way race against Trump and Sanders (which can perhaps be extended in theory to Warren and others.)
But if nobody tries, we will never know.
jamesb says
Sanders would lose Democratic votes to Trump who would make him out to be a mad Socialist….
Even some Democrats are uncomfortable with the guy
My Name Is Jack says
Still dreaming I see.
Your “centrist” candidate of course would actually be aconservative Republican who would support 75% or so of Trumps agenda ,differing on immigration to some extent ,and tariffs.
And who would select S.C. Justices like Gorsuch and Cavanaugh.
That,in your view, would be “centrist.”
CG says
Give me a bona fide centrist. I don’t give a damn at this point. My list of demands is very small and quite reasonable.
My Name Is Jack says
You give us one…
This is your fantasy.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
FWIW from POTUS:
New Poll: The Rasmussen Poll, one of the most accurate in predicting the 2016 Election, has just announced that “Trump” numbers have recently gone up by four points, to 50%. Thank you to the vicious young Socialist Congresswomen. America will never buy your act! #MAGA2020
All I can say is that it’s a pretty low bar for a 2 1/2 year incumbent to gloat over getting even as much as 50 % approval for his job performance (assuming that the Rasmussen poll is accurate, representative and not a statistically-inevitable fluke.). All America has never been with him, no matter what he might think.
He’s never won any popularity contests, either. See
http://pollingreport.com/trump_fav.htm
jamesb says
DSD?
Ras has had Trump’s numbers up at 50% before…
Actually?
The Ras poll’s are the one’s that RCP uses to keep Trump polling average higher that it probably actually is….
My Name Is Jack says
If Trump is re-elected?
Who knows?
Minorities might be read out of the party.I mean you disagree with Trump?Get the Hell Out Of the country!
CG says
Eventually, they will run out of white people. That seems to be the matter that Trump’s base does not want to consider long-term. They are just focused on the “winning” and “owning the libs” here and now. They could give a damn about future generations and if they will ever get to “win.”
jamesb says
He plays on their fear with immigration…
Yes CG
We repeat that over and Over….
Scott P says
CG the quickest way for the Republican Party to change and embrace people like Will Hurd instead of seeing them quit the party is for Steve Daines, Tom Tillis, Mitch McConnell, Lindsey Graham and all other Trump loving GOP Senators to have their asses handed to them next year.
Now that would mean Democrats take over the Senate (and presumably the White House)
Is that a tradeoff you’d be prepares to embrace to see that the Republican Party returns to sanity in your lifetime?
CG says
Surrendering and quitting isn’t going to accomplish anything except help Democrats, which you should admit, is the *only* thing you care about in this regard.
Now, the sane Republicans may one day lose, and we will be gone from the party because of that, but surrendering this early is for cowards.
Scott P says
So you support Daines, Graham, and McConnell who blindly support Trump and want to read people like Will Hurd out of your party. Yet you scold me-a Democrat– for pointing out the truth that Hurd’s road to “elevation” in the party is a rough one at best.
Makes sense.
CG says
None of those names have said anything critical of Will Hurd or the others, nor will they.
It’s pretty obvious why they will not.
Some rough roads are worth traveling. I just had to drive home in a freakin’ monsoon .
CG says
Well, Biden keeps moving to the left and apologizing. I don’t know. Maybe he will be the strongest person you people have, but I sincerely doubt he is going to be the nominee.
