GOP Sen. Rand Paul offered to buy Rep. Ilhan Omar a ticket to Somalia so she could learn to “appreciate America more.”
“While I’m not saying we forcibly send her anywhere, I’m willing to contribute to buy her a ticket to go visit Somalia, and I think she could look and maybe learn a little bit about the disaster that is Somalia – that has no capitalism, has no God-given rights guaranteed in a constitution, and has about seven different tribes that have been fighting each other for the last 40 years,” the Kentucky Republican told Breitbart in an interview published last Wednesday. ”And then, maybe after she’s visited Somalia for a while, she might come back and appreciate America more.”
Omar, who represents Minnesota in Congress, was born in Somalia but fled the African country with her parents when she was 12 and spent four years in a refugee camp in Kenya.
She and her family came to the US in 1992 and she became a naturalized citizen.
Paul’s comments to the conservative website were in defense of President Trump’s tweets about Omar and her three freshman Democratic colleagues in the House — Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib….
