After the first outrage that ran in the media for days ?
He came up with I didn’t say or approve it…
But now that his Right leaners are annoyed that he isn’t supporting the chants?
The tail gets to wag the dog…..
Donald Trump seems to say the crowd was fine in their chants….
President Trump on Saturday doubled down on his defense of his handling of a rally crowd this week that chanted “send her back” when he took aim at progressive Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), maintaining that he didn’t “lead people on” and was not “particularly happy” with the chant.
Trump in a tweet also reiterated his praise for the crowd, calling it “very big and patriotic.” The president on Friday afternoon similarly praised those who took part in the chant at his rally in North Carolina, calling them “patriots” after earlier distancing himself from the chant.
“As you can see, I did nothing to lead people on, nor was I particularly happy with their chant. Just a very big and patriotic crowd. They love the USA!” Trump tweeted early Saturday, sharing a tweet that included video of the chanting crowd from his rally on Wednesday night. ….

“Many people say it’s good. I don’t know if it’s good or bad,” he continued. “I can tell you this: You can’t talk that way about our country. Not when I’m the president.”
And he has overwhelming Republican support…
Now let’s argue over whether it is 85.467% or 83.961% or 88.439%!
I’ve heard that suburban Republican congressmen who narrowly won in 2018 are shitting their pants now. Even the outer parts of most metro areas are diversifying at a fairly fast clip and this stuff turns off those voters.
Remember that Trump tried to make the midterm election about “the caravan” and the GOP lost 41 seats in normally Republican friendly metros like Oklahoma City, Kansas City, KS and Charleston.
I’m in a deep blue district but my neighboring R+8 district–MO 2–barely stayed in Ann Wagner’s hands last fall. She still voted with the GOP herd (as opposed to Will Hurd).
Trump was able to eke out an electoral college victory in 2016 by running up huge margins in rural areas while the urban vote dropped. In the suburbs he mostly held the same % Romney got in 2012.
If the suburbs vote like they did in 2018 Trump will be in a tough spot to eke out another victory.
One would think Republicans would be screaming at him to focus on the economy which would probably keep the suburban vote in GOP hands.
Alas in today’s Republican Party all but a literal handful are afraid of a possible
angry tweet that energizes the FOX News demographic that dominates a GOP primary.
They HAVE be bitching to Trump media reports in private sit downs ….
But this IS. the guy who crows about doing things by the seat of his pants….
Donald J. Trump IS and always has been his own worst enemy….
Do NOT expect him to try to move to the middle like candidates have done in the past…He’s tone deaf to that argument…
