After the Kamala Harris laid the smack down on Joe Biden in the first debate…
Tonights show is the top ticket….
Will it be about Joe Biden recovering?
Kamala Harris attacking again , or coming under attack?
Or?
Will someone else on stage steal the spotlight?
Mr. Biden’s allies say he was personally hurt by the ferocity of Ms. Harris’s criticism in their last debate, given her relationship as California attorney general with Mr. Biden’s late son, Beau Biden, then the attorney general of Delaware. Some of his allies say privately that the moment was a wake-up call for him and expect him to be much more assertive on Wednesday.
“I’m not going to be as polite this time,” he said last week at a fund-raiser.
Their dynamic will be among the most closely-watched of the second debate…

Mr. Booker has an extensive campaign organization in the early-voting primary states and has been a known quantity to Democratic activists for years.
But so far, he has struggled to stand out in a crowded field, and his early campaign themes of love and unity have appeared to fall flat with a Democratic base that is often outraged in the Trump era. He has hovered between 1 percent and 3 percent in recent polls.
More recently, Mr. Booker has sounded more combative notes, appearing particularly eager to draw contrasts with Mr. Biden. The two men sparred last week over the issue of criminal justice, with Mr. Booker calling Mr. Biden an “architect of mass incarceration,” and Mr. Biden ripping into the record of the Newark Police Department when Mr. Booker was mayor.
Mr. Booker has gone after Mr. Biden before, only to pull back soon after….
Note….
Last nights debate was among all white men and women…
The two ‘heavy hitters’ on stage are progressive/lefties, one isn’t even a Democrat…
They both trail Joe Bide, Mister moderate/centrist by 2 to 1….
There appeal to the media narrative of left leaning policy…
Polling and anecdotal info points to a Democratic Party that embraces Biden’s more centrist policies than the other two…
Tonight’s debate will have more diversity on stage, something that the Democratic Party and voters are ACTUALLY moving to….
Except for one recent poll?
The moderate/centrist guy is seen as more ‘electable’ then the lefties by Democrats….

Final statements are being made…
They Are self serving and aimed at getting rid of Donald Trump , not throwing down at Biden….
jamesb says
I do NOT see the same things as u do CG….
This IS supposed toileting be a ‘debate’….
It really isn’t with ALL the people on stage…
Biden is holding his own…
Harris was hit with OpResearch….
Yang is NOT a factor….
Cory Booker is another one in the single digits that attacked Biden and was countered with OpResearch on his time as the Mayor of Newark by Biden…
Joe Biden IS THE LEADER in the race….
THAT is a fact…

Ok…
I have followed the first quarter of the debate and watched most of the 2nd half….
I STRONGLY disagree with your view….
It started off smooth…
Then the fireworks….
The questioning then set up a chance for Harris to attack Biden…
Harris went after him…
Biden THEN countered…
Gabbard then went after Harris and HER record as AG and DA….
Gabbard left Harris almost speechless…
The debate then moved away from attacking Biden…
A nice dig came from deBlasio…
I forgot what…
But the NYCC mayor asked Biden if he changed his mind….deBlasio was looking for a fight…
Biden just said Yes….
THAT was a breakthrough moment for Biden…
He didn’t take the bait….
I disagree with your view that the contestants are out to destroy each other…
Biden has been the target..
he’s the top guy…
He got questioned…
But as my wife just said…
A different Joe Biden is on stage now…
And YES…
Most of them have political records…
They have to answer for them…
But as one of the people on the stage pointed out?
Keeping the questions on 20 years ago does NOT help the party to beat Donald Trump…

I am really surprised that everyone but Biden on the stage appears to be good with bashing Obama on what his administration didn’t do.
Polling suggests that Obama remains VERY popular among Democrats.

Yang is having a very good debate. It’s not just that he’s gotten more comfortable. It’s also that he sounds different than the other candidates without sounding loopy. It’s the Williamson role, but played by an analytical AI obsessive.

They aren’t showing up on my screen. Again, they were made n the other thread, not this one. It is now too late to see them in the “Recent Comments” because there have been too many since then.
Not saying you did this intentionally, but they are definitely not there, and I noticed you deleted some posts you made and then ehanged them up a bit and re-published from that thread to the other thread, so I think somehow you deleted my posts too.

Former Vice President Joe Biden spoke for more than 20 minutes of the two-and-a-half hour Democratic presidential debate on Wednesday as he parried attacks from virtually every other candidate on stage.
Biden, who struggled under the pressure of unexpected attacks during last month’s debate, responded to the moderators or to his fellow candidates more than 30 times, far more than any other candidate on stage.
In just the first few minutes of the debate, he and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) clashed repeatedly over their respective health care plans.
Harris spoke for more than 15 minutes on Wednesday, second only to Biden. She, too, faced attacks from rivals including Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) and Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) — and Harris had more than 20 chances to respond to questions or attacks….

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) took flak over her health care plan from former Vice President Joe Biden as well as Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) and Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) during the second Democratic presidential debate Wednesday.
Harris’s plan calls for a transition to expand coverage into “Medicare for All” over 10 years by keeping a limited role for private insurance, similar to current Medicare Advantage plans. Her plan has been slammed by moderates like Biden and Bennet, as well as supporters of Medicare for All….

Joe Biden ended his debate night with a viral gaffe. He stared straight into the camera and said: “If you agree with me, go to Joe 30330 and help me in this fight.” Cue immediate confusion. (Viewers concluded Biden meant to tell his supporters to text his name to the number.)

As the moderators of CNN’s forum started introducing the candidates, the California senator walked out from the wings to face the audience and meet the former vice president at center stage. Biden’s first words to Harris were: “Go easy on me, kid.”

I don’t pretend to know which ones will get a bump, and how big the bumps are. I will say that not enough happened in this debate to dramatically shuffle the deck. Biden was battered for two hours but it reinforced his frontrunner status. #DemDebate

Kamala Harris is a one-hit wonder. Joe Biden is the Comeback Kid.
The California senator, who was the unqualified star of her first debate for going after Joe Biden, came into her second with a real shot at getting Democrats to turn their attentions and affections toward her.
Instead, given the opportunity she had and squandered, Harris turned in one of the worst debate performances in history. There was no single horrible moment, like Rick Perry forgetting the name of the third cabinet department he’d eliminate or Marco Rubio repeating himself robotically. No, the whole thing was horrible.
At the same time, Biden was facing a pundit class that viewed his uncertain first debate performance as a harbinger of doom — one more bad show and he’d be through. Well, toast he ain’t. He won the debate hands down, in part because he had a ready parry for every thrust made at him by the rest of the field….

We’ll see if Cory Booker gets a little bounce….
I do NOT expect Kamala Harris to get another ‘bounce’…
The race seems to be for second place between Warren and Sanders….
But they seem to be trying to work tougher to get the media to advance their lefty policy push for the party….
I doubt even the Democratic nomination/primary voters will reward them for their selling things that ain’t gonna happen…

I know you don’t like hearing this from me, although others ,including Nate Silver, have said essentially the same thing.
These summer debates just aren’t that big a deal to the eventual outcome of the race.
Kamala Harris is not a”one hit wonder” and remains a major contender for the nomination.
Nothing has happened in these debates that has changed the calculus of the race that has existed almost since its inception in my view,
You have Biden in the lead with Sanders ,Warren and Harris in contention. The only surprise has been the showing of Buttigieg as more than a second tier candidate and the failure of Booker to break out .
Booker supposedly did well last night.Maybe that will help him some,
