This Politico piece goes to California to feature some Harris backlash against her attacking Joe Biden….
(Harris may have actually done still front runner Joe Biden a favor by waking him up to the hard fight coming his way)
Kamala Harris might be reveling in her sudden burst of attention after roasting Joe Biden over racial issues on the debate stage last week, but a backlash is already brewing.
Biden supporters and Democrats who have attended the former vice president’s events in the days after the first nationally televised debate, are describing Harris’ assault on Biden as an all-too-calculated overreach after she knocked him on his heels in a grilling over busing and his remarks on segregationist senators.
“She played low ball, which was out of character. And he didn’t expect it, nor did I,” said Lee White, a Biden supporter who attended his remarks at the Jesse Jackson Rainbow PUSH Coalition. “She should not have gone that route. She’s much too intelligent, she’s been able to be successful thus far, why do you have to do that.”
One major Biden supporter from California who declined to be named for publication said Harris’ direct attack on Biden was a mistake that would haunt her.
“It’s going to bite her in the ass,” the supporter noted. “Very early on there was buzz … Biden-Kamala is the dream ticket, the best of both worlds.’’
After this week, “That shit ain’t happening.”
The criticism of Harris over her rough treatment of Biden is among the first signs of backlash — including in her home state — against the California Democrat who had a breakout moment in the first presidential debate. It’s also a sign of the goodwill and loyalty that many still feel toward that the vice president, who has managed to keep many of his backers in his camp, even amid criticism of what was roundly viewed as a subpar debate performance. Indeed, sources say Biden walked away with a $1 million haul after two fundraisers in San Francisco alone this weekend….
Carol Moseley Braun pushes back against Harris ….
Well, it turns out that many within the African American community are none too happy with Harris. Most notably, Politico reports that Carol Moseley Braun, the former senator from Illinois, rebuked Harris by saying, “We can be proud of her nonetheless, but her ambition got it wrong about Joe. He is about the best there is; for her to take that tack is sad.”
Note Moseley Braun’s use of the word “ambition” to describe Harris in contrast with her description of Biden as “the best there is.” In other words, the Democrat establishment is not going to allow the new crop of flashy Democrats to take down the old guard….

I think that Kamala Harris’ point (which should have been framed more as a question) about busing is a fari topic of discussion.
Most of us would like to know what Joe Biden thinks about busing, just as we’d like to know if or how Bernie Sanders’ position on gun-control has changed.
But her contrived outrage over Biden’s relationship with Southern Senators who were also ardent segregationists was completely gratuitous (and perhaps hypocritical, considering the kinds of folks with whom a D.A. and attorney-general must have a cordial working relationship). And most of those who contribute here have agreed on why such relationships were unavoidable in the 1950’s 1960’s and 1970’s for anyone who wanted to accomplish something worthwhile or to avert something destructive.

Yes DSD….
The media narrative however has nothing to do with your point…
They want a horse race…
They are doing their damn best to try to elevate this into one…
So far?
It is NO such thing….
Stay tuned….

New poll….
the Harris ‘bounce’ present..
Kamala Harris’ polling surge continued Tuesday, as a pair of new polls — one of Iowa caucus-goers and another national poll — shows her leaping to second place.
The Iowa poll, conducted by USA Today and Suffolk University, showed Biden at 24 percent to 16 percent for Harris. Elizabeth Warren is in third at 13 percent, followed by Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 9 percent. Pete Buttigieg is at 6 percent, and Sens. Amy Klobuchar and ….

One thing that may be interesting is a developing line of attack on Biden that the Obama administration wasn’t “liberal” enough.
That kind of talk might go over well in the north where liberal activists predominate but such won’t work in the south where Black voters are the major factor in Democratic primaries.
Here, Obama is thought of in almost saintly terms and no one cares much about “degrees” of liberalism.Any candidate, including Booker and Harris, that try to play that card will find it falls flat in S.C. for instance.

Great point Jack….
i think Obama has good more good will in other places also….
The reports are that the same feeling extends outside the South and that it is the core of Biden’s continued lead….
It would seem to preclude most of the others from the nomination even if they have lefty support

I do NOT believe Biden’s support was CUT in HALF from one debate …..
A new Reuters/Ipsos poll finds support for Joe Biden among black voters, a critical Democratic voting bloc, was cut in half, with about two out of 10 saying they backed the former vice president, compared with four out of 10 in the June poll….

I agree with DSD’s sentiment that her political career is filled with her having to cozy up with some pretty unsavory characters, but the larger issue is she caught Biden flat footed and we are going to see if he can wake up or is he really “sleepy” Joe. He needs to shake off the rust. I watched the second debate and the few things I have taken away from them have been,
Way too many people on stage
Biden and Bernie Look like old white men (just from different sides of the spectrum)
Warren is starting to get people to warm to her (including myself)
Harris is starting to look like a possible candidate (VP for sure) and is definitely tough as nails (also starting to warm to her, though she was my first choice before Biden entered the race)
The rest of the group are pretenders and need to return to their regular day jobs
And finally can the next democratic candidate win the 15% of the electorate that hasn’t already made up their mind. 42% slide Trump. 43-45% solid no trump…so that leaves only about 15-12% of people that really matter in the election.

Welcome BACK bdog!
Yes….
Joe Biden STILL leads and IS the guy that most think can beat Trump….
And?
Yes….
His supporters are waiting for something better….

That’s the nub of a very thorny controversy s among the pro’s right now:
* Is the electorate so solidly entrenched within two camps that the battle is about who can stir up the most enthusiasm and turnout in his (her) own Base?
* Or is that small middle ground or no man’s land in between or on the fringes — which once formed a plurality or even when combined a majority of the voters — still so vital that a winning Democratic candidate (as opposed to Trump) should concentrate on persuading its members to support a change in the Presidency (and if very hopeful the Senate)
* Or must you somehow (if possible) contrive to do both at the same time ?
Although I think that the second and third approaches might offer the best path, I’m deterred by the failure (on the D side) of Third Way policies, based on outdated social and economic models, that were followed by Obama and both Clintons, and by the electoral success (on the R side) of strident, uncompromising rhetoric drawing on fear, grievance and a sense of loss.

One thing I learned from the Hillary Clinton loss….
Running for President in the American two party system is TWO DISTINCT acts….
Act 1….The nom nomination
Act 2….The genera; election
They are NOT mutually exclusive….
For Joe Biden?
Running against Donald Trump from the jump was great until Harris threw down something NOT of your making and you fucked up the response…
It has been my view that Democrats capture there middle of the voting base and tease the left for the notion #1….
Upon getting THAT prize?
The Democrats moves to the center to win prize #2….
Biden has started off in the middle strongly…
His bit of the left (and he has some ) has NOT been highlighted ….Furthermore?
It will NEVER touch the hardcore lefties or progressives if want to call them of these days…
Biden IS the leader NO DOUBT because he owns the Black vote…
But?
I’ve been repeating this since the debate….
he IS gonna HAVE to sharpen his debate skills…
He has most of party routing for him…
Don’t fuck it up Joe…
BTW?
I think a Biden/Harris ticket would do the trick…
