GOPer’s are locking themselves into Donald Trump’s coattails….
Good or Bad….
For Better or Worst….

How will these people deal with themselves when he’s left the job and the stage….
The lack of widespread Republican condemnation of President Trump for his comments about four Democratic congresswomen of color illustrated both the tightening stranglehold Mr. Trump has on his party and the belief of many Republicans that an attack on progressivism should in fact be a central element of the 2020 campaign.
While a smattering of Republicans chastised Mr. Trump on Monday, most party leaders in the House and Senate and much of the rank-and-file remained quiet about the president’s weekend tweets directing dissenters to “go back” where they came from. He followed up on those comments on Monday with harsh language directed at “people who hate America” — an inflammatory accusation to be leveled against elected members of the House.
With Mr. Trump far more popular with Republican voters than incumbent Republican members of Congress, most are loath to cross the president and risk reprisals. The case of Representative Justin Amash, the Michigan lawmaker who was forced to leave the party after he dared to suggest Mr. Trump should be impeached, serves as a cautionary tale.
At the same time, many Republicans are seeking to label the four congresswomen and their ideas as “far left,” seeing it as a potential foundation of a sweeping critique of Democrats in 2020. In an appearance on Fox News, Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, called the four “a bunch of communists,” a step beyond the president, who said he was at the moment only willing to go so far as calling them “socialists.”

James, I’m not sure you understand the difference between “worse” (which you meant here) and “worst” (which is what you wrote).
A can be a worse candidate than B, but if he or she is worse than every other candidate, then she or he is the worst of all the candidates.
Good > Better > Best
Bad > Worse > Worst
Few > Less > Least
Many > More > Most
[ In formal grammar, better and worse are called “comparatives”, while best and worst are called “superlatives”, but there’s little need to delve further into this, especially since I’ve forgotten the formal definitions. ]

my mistake..
Worse IS the right word and has been change to the right thing…

I’m not sure if Trumps rant will have much effect on his approval rating.
Maybe some suburban “Independents,” who usually vote Republican will momentarily get pissed, but that’sshouldnt last more than a month or so.
My Name Is Jack says
I’m already tired of all these” analysts “ saying that Republicans need to do this and that as a result of Trumps racially charged remarks.
In my view, they still don’t understand what the average Republican cares about. It sure as Hell isnt Trumps myriad insensitive remarks..
He’s against “libruls” and the media .Thats all they need to know.So what if he enrages some Minorities ?Hes our guy and we’re sticking with him .
Trump well understands his audience and his party ,much better that Republican Presidents of recent vintage.
jamesb says
Basic, eh Jack?
What about the one with college degree’s?
They should know better?

Hatred of “libruls” and media knows no educational limitation
Remember the term”libruls” encompasses a much broader spectrum than just “liberals. It can even mean certain Republicans!CG often complains that he is branded as such over @HHR,even though he shares most of the policy views of most of those folks, his opposition to Trump lands him in the “librul” camp.
Essentially, in the Age Of Trump, a”librul “ is anyone who opposes Trump.
If you’re looking for “reason”here you’re out of luck. This is just old fashioned hate.
Scott P says
Republicans fanned the flames of hate for decades. They just knew when to douse the fire. With Trump it’s become a full fledged forest blaze. But the fire is their power and if they embrace the water to put it out they lose said power
In their minds better to shrug off the obvious racism saying ” it’s not so hot”

James, wondering if hindsight has you seeing the robust potential your writing, above, has to invite even more people to Trump’s ‘Party’? More & more are flocking to Trump’s side on more & more of the issues (or they’re feeling more comfortable about fessing up to same) because the world keeps proving him right on so many points (whether we like it or not).
The example you’ve so readily cooked up here provides ripe fruit for those who’ve heard Trump & the GOP rant about left-leaning media attempts to slant the truth, slack off journalistic integrity, and stand in moral judgement of dissenters; all in order to take down the guy who beat their candidate. Testing portions of your ‘article’ under such attacks yields another tasty meal for Trump & the GOP – and potentially a bigger RSVP list to the very party you’ve written against, eg:
“How will these people deal with themselves when he’s left the job and the stage…”
+ “Both the willingness of Republicans to attach extremist labels to Democrats and the Democratic assault against Mr. Trump as a racist and white supremacist presage a particularly bitter 2020 campaign.”
A much more balanced and less biased way to present your views without helping to trigger the very calamity you’re portending would be, eg: maybe scrap the whole condescending. judging-their-evil-souls’ sentence about folks who harbor different views than yours; and maybe remove the clear distortion when you articulate ‘The willingness of both parties to attach extremist labels to the other presages a particularly bitter 2020 campaign’. – – –
– – – Hoping you start see the difference … If we can get our gifted communicators to start speaking & writing more honestly & respectfully, especially when addressing folks with difffering views (whether as topic or audience), we all will get a lot further to our stated goals; by exemplifying the very things we say that we so desperately want and need as a People & as a Nation right now.

Good to hear from ya VoiceofReason….
If my blog and writing turns more people to flow Donald Trump?
So be it!…
While some in the media DO lean left?
A LOT in the media also do their job of trying to seek the truth about a man who has slipped into Presidency that a good many people think is inept….
Truth?
I have on many occasions labeled Trump a serial liar….
I stand by that view…
On may things he makes up stuff and then admits when cornered that ‘yea I made it up’…
When those untruths are reported?
Your guy calls the media liar’s….
Democrats throwing down against Donald Trump?
Huh?
Trump has blamed Democrats for everything under the sun…
Are the expected to NOT answer the guy back?
And thin skinned?
Just mention him and he goes on attack mode….
THEN?
He cries because he gets push back…
Calamaity?
YES….
Trump’s foreign policy has netted no new trade treaties…
North Korea still has nukes…
Iran is working towards their own…
Trump’s trade war with China is up in the air…
Trump trade talks with Mexico and Canada have NO agreement…
Trump has dissed NATO and our European Allies on the subject’s of military and trade…
But the best I save for last….
Even with Trump going after Democrats and his own?
He has and WILL end up making deals with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi…
He has NO CHOICE…
People and a nation will benefit by your guy shutting up and moving represent the totality of America…
Not just his 40-45%ers….
If you truly revel in this backwards guy not even trying to be Presidential?
Enjoy!
He’s WILL be exiting the stage we hope sooner….
Then u of the lost will have to wake up and try to deal with the REALITY of Who and What America is Today….
And maybe u can embrace a future that IS more diverse and wonderful ….
Democratic Socialist Dave says
If Donald Trump’s retweet is to be believed than 94% of Republicans support the President. That’d nearly nineteen out of every 20 Republicans, with non-supporters (or non-respondents) at no more than about one in 17 GOPers.
He’s wrecked and destroyed a great deal (some of it going back more than a century to Teddy Roosevelt), but accomplished very little.
Yet his supporters (or his corporate backers) disliked most of what he killed and were terrified about what might come. So forth came the Donald, who proclaimed:
“Only I can save you !”

Trump is a serial liar….
I believe in the end?
Republicans will be screwed by Trum’s time in offdice

I’m of the view that ten years or so after Trump exits the Presidency it will become increasingly difficult to find people who will admit to having voted for him.
This phenomenon is well known in the south where by the early Eighties few would admit to having voted for George Wallace.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
… when Wallace won 66 % of Alabama’s voters, 63.5 % of Mississippi’s, and nearly half (48.3 %) of Louisiana’s.
… but of course none of those Wallace voters are still with us and everyone surviving from the 1968 election voted for Humphrey or Nixon….
