Trump WILL most probably carry Texas come next November….
Polling there always gives Democrats early chances but collapses on election FOR Republicans…
But these early polls showing Trump marginal in the state are not a good look for him and Republicans who WILL lose the state’s voters sooner or later….
Among the registered Texan voters, 39 percent said they would “definitely” vote to reelect Trump, while 43 percent said they would “definitely not” vote for him.
Another 11 percent said they would “probably” vote to give Trump a second term, while 7 percent would “probably not.”
“That 50-50 number encapsulates how divisive Trump is,” said James Henson, the University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll co-director.
But, he added, the number is not necessarily “a useful prediction for an election that’s 16 months away.”
Among Republican respondents, 73 percent would “definitely” vote for Trump. Eighty-five percent of Democrats would “definitely not.”
Sixty percent of independents in the traditionally red state said they would not vote for Trump, with 45 percent saying “definitely not.”
“The most interesting and more consequential thing, this far out, is that amongst independents, 60 percent say they will probably or definitely vote for somebody else,” said Joshua Blank, manager of polling and research for the Texas Politics Project….
