Why Not?…..
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is refusing to buckle to the near constant drumbeat from Democrats — and some Republicans — about the need to pass election security legislation in the wake of the report from special counsel Robert Mueller that found Russia interfered in the 2016 election.
The Kentucky Republican, who believes strongly that elections should be primarily controlled by state and local authorities and not managed by Washington, argues that the federal government has already responded to the problems raised from the 2016 campaign and more does not need to be done at this time.
McConnell thinks Democrats have poisoned the water through their early legislative efforts on election security.

“The Kentucky Republican who believes strongly….”
I’ve never known Mitch McConnell to believe “strongly”in anything other than securing a federal job for his wife and making sure rich people get a tax cut every couple of years.

I don’t see how McConnell is different than other Republicans. He will support whatever is best for him at that moment. He has few, if any principles. That is what the Republican Party has been for years, and it is what the GOP will be when Trump’s term is over (even if he leaves voluntarily – which I doubt he will).

Before Trump happened, McConnell was considered very principled for a politician, for an opposition to a flag burning amendment, despite the political popularity of it on the right, just as one example.

McConnell’s handling of Merrick Garland and his efforts to make Obama a one-term President we’re both before Trump.
I don’t Recall any serious discussion of a flag burning amendment, although it is possible that it is popular in the sources that you read. Maybe we can agree that McConnell was as principled as you were?

I recall vaguely that even as Majority Leader, Sen. McConnell sometimes acts and votes from a residual libertarianism (rather than GOP loyalty). I think he, as well as Justin Amash, voted for some limits on snooping, although I wish I could recall more and clearer details.

The operative words are “before Trump.”
Now?He is nothing but a toady and his wife is a Trump appointee.
You said awhile back that you were “disappointed “ in him.Thats high criticism from you for any Republican (other than Trump).
