This has gotta be a break for Democrats in the US Senate…
Moore is a walking wreck…
Doug Jones has to be happy….
We’ll see if he post a bigger win for Democrats next November….
Former Alabama Judge Roy Moore announced Thursday that he will make another bid for the Alabama Senate seat he lost to Democrat Doug Jones in 2017 in the face of sexual misconduct allegations.
Why it matters: Moore was almost guaranteed a win as the Republican nominee in Alabama’s 2017 special election, but a wave of sexual misconduct allegations, largely involving teenage girls, derailed his candidacy. The resulting chaos handed Jones a narrow 49.9%-48.4% victory — making him the first Democrat to hold statewide office in Alabama since 2008.

Why assume he is getting nominated? That seems to be the assumption of this piece.
I think he has about a 10 percent chance of winning the nomination. I guess you never know, but absent that, Jones is likely a goner.
Zreebs says
The GOP establishment came out against Moore in the past and he still won. I think that most likely Moore does NOT win the nomination, but I give him odds much higher than 10% – especially if it is a crowded field. Obviously, Jones faces a steep uphill battle to win absent a Moore nomination, and the race is competitive even with a Moore nomination.
Scott P says
Yeah, anyone who thinks Moore only has a 10% chance of winning the GOP Senate nomination clearly doesn’t understand Southern Republican politics.
CG says
The child predator stories did not come out against Moore until *after* he won the run-off the last time. I think it will be impossible for him to win a nomination now. There were also factors before that with Luther Strange being appointed controversially by Bentley that was the main reason Strange lost.
There are some major factors in the timeline from the last election that are not being taken into consideration.
CG says
Believe me, whomever wins that nomination in AL, you guys will think is the devil incarnate.
I seriously doubt it will be Moore.
Zreebs says
Well, Alabama has quite a history in the type of person that wins the GOP nomination. Jeff Sessions, despite his history before Trump, is considered mainstream by the GOP in that state. And this is the state party that nominated and elected Jeremiah Denton.
Most Republicans couldn’t care less about Moore’s background. They supported Kavenaugh even though he liked to play the Devil’s Triangle – even if he claims it was also the name of a drinking game in the 1980s

I agree Scott and Zreebs, Moore certainly has a solid chance to win this nomination again. In fact, Senator Jones will be in a unique position to help him along by attacking Moore at strategic times during the primary campaign. Nothing will get those crackers up in arms faster than hearing from that librul Doug Jones and they will jump at the chance to defend him.
Moore has a solid base of deplorables who will vote for him even if they find him with a dead girl in the woods.
Amazing that the Republican Party keeps producing creeps like Moore. Of course if Moore does win Mitch will be the first to welcome him aboard.
My Name Is Jack says
That actually might be Jones best strategy.
By attacking Moore, the Alabama Trumpites will assume that he is attacking Moore because he fears him as an opponent and might rally to him.
I tend to think, however, that even the Cultists have learned their lesson and Moore will not end up the nominee.
Scott P says
It’s Alabama. And the Trumpublican Party in 2019
If I were a betting man I sure wouldn’t bet against Moore gettibg the nomination.
My Name Is Jack says
Aparently the Alabama Trump Party is trying to get Jeff Sessions to run for his old seat.
The hilarity in this move by the Trump clown show participants is complete. They are trying to recruit a man that Trump essentially fired to take down this idiot Moore so he can go back to the Senate to support the man who fired him!
jamesb says
Hey Jack?
Why should the Democrats have been the only ones to have eaten their own?
jamesb says
He, he, he….
Sound familiar ?
“Republicans are promising to do everything they can to obliterate Roy Moore in the Alabama Senate primary,” Politico reports.
“A push is underway to get President Donald Trump involved in derailing Moore. Republicans are actively moving to recruit Jeff Sessions to run for his old seat. And GOP leaders are warning the party will jeopardize perhaps its only chance at picking up a Senate seat next year if they let Democrat Doug Jones get his favored match-up.”
Said Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ): “Give me a break. This place has enough creepy old men.”…
Politicalwire…

The Trumps are Tweeting against Roy Moore and will almost certainly endorse a different candidate.
So if Moore wins the nomination in AL (which would involve getting over 50 percent in a runoff), it would be a tremendous sign of weakness for Trump.
You can’t have it both ways. I doubt Moore even makes a runoff.
Scott P says
Trump supported that other dude the last time. But still backed Moore and acted like that was who he wanted to win the runoff all along.
And the GOP bought it.

Meanwhile former S.C. Governor Nikki Haleyhas blasted Moore’s entry into the Senate race in Alabama.
The putative future Republican presidential candidate amusingly said that Moore didn’t represent “our Republican Party.”
But Donald Trump does?
Thank you Nikki .We know all we need to know about “your” Republican Party!
Keith says
She’s campaigning for VP and, if the Democrats put a woman on the ticket, I predict she will get the slot.
Mike Pence and all his self righteous right wing religious bullshit will be kicked the curb. He can go home to “mother” and then come out of his deep dark closest.
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah I know there’s a lot of talk about that and I agree that with a female Democratic VP candidate that might seem a good political move,
But Trump is also very big on loyalty and often completely disregards smart political moves .so I’m not sold on the idea that he would dump his lapdog,Pence.
Besides,Trump appears to me not to particularly care for Nikki personally.
Scott P says
I’ll laugh my ass off it that bigoted bible thumper Pence gets kicked to the curb next year. All that toadying up for nothing!
