I had a talk with a women the other day…..
It started off as about things in general….
But then, as things often do?
It came around to current affairs and politics….
After I hinted about doing a political blog things came around to Donald Trump, of course….
I gave my view of the craziness we’re living thru…
She seemed uneasy….
I asked why?
She smiled at me and admitted that some of things I was saying about how crazy politics had become in the last two years made her uneasy….
Then?
She looked me in the eyes and said she was uneasy with Trump…
I smiled….
Then she said….
I’m a Republican….And that healthcare IS important to her ….
And the talk of changing it was unsettling….
She went on to explain that Trump’s immigration policy was wrong spirited….
I pointed out that President Obama deported a LOT of people also…But he did so to try to get a deal with Republicans who would not do so….
She was surprised….
But still went on about being uncomfortable with Trump….
We talked some more…
I backed away from anti-Trump stuff….
She grew quiet….
I asked her about Joe Biden’s ‘hands’ problems….
She grew animated….
Joe Biden, she said….Was all right with her…
His sincerity
She felt was something she liked….
She saw no sexual undertone to the former Vice President’s actions and felt the media had gone in the wrong direction with the whole story….
As we began to wind up the conversation I asked her directly….
Being a Republican….Would she still vote for Donald Trump next year?
Her reaction was swift….
‘No’
American’s need someone who can calm thinks down ….
Donald Trump is not that person……

Jeremy Corbyn has said he will not attend the state banquet at Buckingham Palace in honour of Donald Trump. (BBC News)
The British Labour Party leader argued it would be wrong to “roll out the red carpet” for the US president, whom he accused of using “racist and misogynist rhetoric”.
The US-UK relationship did not need “the pomp and ceremony” of June’s state visit, he added.
Prime Minister Theresa May promised Mr Trump the honour after he was elected in 2016.
Commons Speaker John Bercow and Liberal Democrat leader Sir Vince Cable have already declined to attend the dinner.
In a statement, Mr Corbyn said: “Theresa May should not be rolling out the red carpet for a state visit to honour a president who rips up vital international treaties, backs climate change denial and uses racist and misogynist rhetoric.
“Maintaining an important relationship with the United States does not require the pomp and ceremony of a state visit. It is disappointing that the prime minister has again opted to kowtow to this US administration.
“I would welcome a meeting with President Trump to discuss all matters of interest.”
A spokeswoman for Mr Bercow, who has been critical of Mr Trump’s record in office, said he had been “invited to the banquet, but he will not be attending”.
The Scottish National Party’s Westminster leader Ian Blackford is also boycotting the meal, saying Mrs May “should instead be holding meetings to challenge the US administration and raise key issues”.
But Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has said the UK should offer “the best possible welcome” to the president.
And Mrs May’s spokesman said the prime minister was “looking forward to welcoming the president here to build on our special relationship”.
The banquet is scheduled to take place on the first evening of the state visit, which will last from 3 to 5 June….

NB: Labour (243 MP’s) and the SNP (35 MP’s) are the second and third largest parties in the House of Commons, followed by the Liberal Democrats (11 MP’s, also boycotting the banquet) The Independent Group/ChangeUK (TIG, 11 MP’s) and, the Northern Irish Democatic Unionists (DUP, 10 MP’s).
322 Members of Parliament are Conservative, 11 are independent, 4 belong to Plaid Cymru/The Welsh Party, and one (Caroline Lucas) is a Green.

My Name Is Jack says
This is amusing in a quirky way.
Apparently Pete Buttigieg ,during a FoxNews town hall last night, criticized Fox News commentators Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham.
Today, Fox News commmentator Brian Kilmeade said that ,if Buttigieg was going to come on FoxNews and criticize its commentators, then he shouldn’t come on.
Well, maybe Fox News shouldn’t invite aDemocratic presidential candidate to do aTown Hall on their network.I mean what is odd about a Democrat criticizing a Trumpist political commentator? It is to be expected I would think.
Certainly it is disingenuous to essentially imply that Buttigieg by accepting FoxNews invitation to appear somehow relinquishes his right to criticize a Fox News commentator.
Perhaps, in the future, Fox News which has in the past criticized Democrats who do not appear on the network ,should make it clear that by appearing on their network one implicitly agrees not to utter any negative comment about their commentators.
jamesb says
Maybe some Fox people think that they shouldn’t consort with the enemy?
My Name Is Jack says
Donald Trump has a running twitter war with several commentators including Joe Scarborough and Rachel Maddie on MSNBC.
And blasts CNN every other day or so.
From the White House no less.
CG says
Trump went after Chris Wallace of Fox News on Twitter for hosting the Town Hall with Buttigieg. He said he liked Chris’s father more and expressed shock that Fox News would cover a Democrat. Clearly, he prefers the North Korean or Russian media model.
Chris Wallace is a good journalist though who is not going to back down. Brit Hume, also of Fox News, took to Twitter to defend Wallace and told Trump that Buttigieg was willing to be asked tough questions by Wallace, which Trump has not been.
My Name Is Jack says
I think Wallace is actually one of the best reporters on any of the three cable news networks, although I rarely watch them much.
Britt Hume ,though generally pro Republican, is pretty good too.
jamesb says
I agree that Wallace asks hard questions of GOPer’s…
The problem for them is that Wallace being ON Fox means he will get sit-downs the other media won’t get
jamesb says
Trump knocks or better yet attacks ANYONE that don”tree things his way…
That includes Fox, Ingram etc…
I notice Red State blog was early knocking Trump as unRepublic
Not anymore
Must have seen their hits drop
My Name Is Jack says
Trump has steadily cooped the conservative “ movement.”
Rare is the conservative media source that offers anything more than an occasional vague negative comment to anything he does.
Accordingly that battle is essentially over.
The question is what happens in the past Trump era and when that era begins?
In my view, for the future of conservatism ,those who subscribe to that philosophy would do well to pray that it ends next year.Four more years of Trumps madness may irrevocably make the terms “conservatism “ and “ Trumpism” permanently synonymous.
jamesb says
Which is why they are afraid anyone in the party knocking Trump…
Like Romney….Hogan or the new guy
CG says
Right now, there is a cultist mentality. Things can change fast in politics due to outside circumstances. Just look at how quickly these people embraced Trump. They can do a 180 in no time if it was ever seen as necessary.
I have never seen an episode of Game of Thrones, but I am sure it involved “powerful leaders” being betrayed and defeated, etc.
jamesb says
They are scared as u know CG
America IS CHANGING
Donald Trump and the Republican can’t stop it…
Trump’s probably making things worst
Scott P says
Game of Thrones was a great show. All the way to the controversial finale.
The “powerful leaders” on that show were all monarchs and when they lost power due to being “betrayed and defeated” it almost always involved grisly death.
All Republicans need to do is grow a spine stop supporting Trump. But they won’t. And as long as they won’t I view the entire party as ridiculous as Trump is.

One would assume Trump’s lawyers appeal this to a Appeals court…

jamesb says
Trump’s polling numbers keep bleeding down…
jamesb says
Post coming
Trump has told Democrats that he will NOT do anything with Them until the investigations stop…
My Name Is Jack says
Actually Trumps polling numbers are remarkably consistent and have been during his Presidency, right around 40% approval.
jamesb says
Yup on Trump’s numbers being 60% AGAINST him
CG says
You’ll never get 60% of the people to vote for a Democrat though.
So, the 2020 is very much up in the air.
Trump has tremendous weaknesses that will make it hard for him to win. At the same time, Democrats have fundamental problems that will make a win (at least in the EC) very tough.
I think james and I agree that Trump, as unpopular as he is, would defeat Bernie Sanders in a traditional two-way race.

CG says
I can’t find the thread where the Stanley Cup Final was mentioned.
I am sure it is very exciting for Blues fans and those of the 80’s hit “Gloria”, but there is no way I could ever root for a team from St. Louis.
On the other hand, the idea that New England could see a victorious World Series, Super Bowl, and Stanley Cup all within a few months of each other is nothing less than sickening.
Bernie Sanders would have to do something to break up that concentration of power.
jamesb says
Go Warriors!
CG says
I’m even willing to root for Milwaukee over the Warriors.
I prefer the Canadian team though I suppose.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
CG’s weekly appraisal of The Race to the White House is out today, beginning:
“Nobody would be caught these days saying our politics are high-minded or mature.
“Most the talk on cable news this weekend will be about the war of words between Donald Trump and Nancy Pelosi. By attacking each other, in very personal terms, both appeal to the bases of their parties, and neither can afford to lose their base….”

Happy Memorial Day Weekend.
It’s fine to post a link in the comment section if anyone wants. I just don’t see a need for a dedicated “post” to be made. Thanks.
My Name Is Jack says
Also, what happened to the list of posts by topic in the sidebar?
I suggest that take the place of that countdown feature.
jamesb says
I’ll consider the change Jack….
My Name Is Jack says
Good…
It’s easier when one visits the site to look there and see if any new articles have been added rather than having the scroll through them.
As to the timeline?Thats nice I guess ,but really not very important as to exactly how many days it is to such and such.
At least that’s my view,
CG says
I concur with the preference to have the list of articles on the main page.
And if at all possible, to extend the list of “most recent comments.”
jamesb says
Hey CG?
What about featuring sone of ur posts here at the PDog?
