Joe Biden spent time in the US Senate….
He IS an old school politician ….
Back in the day?
US Senator’s dod NOT say unkind things about other lawmakers….
These days ex-Presidents and ex-Vice President’s are CAREFUL in saying things about members of the other party that they may have worked with in the past,….
Oh, and Joe Biden has a history of gaffs that will continue….
Biden , for the second time, is learning that saying nice things about the other party people OUT LOUD can cause you some discomfort….
Former Vice President Joe Biden walked back praise to current U.S. Vice President Mike Pence after being called out by the LGBTQ community.
Speaking Thursday at the University of Nebraska-Omaha at the Chuck Hagel Forum in Global Leadership, the potential 2020 Democrat front-runner discussed topics on both domestic and foreign policy that ranged from civil engagement and the recent North Korea summit to long-term prospects for America’s partnership with NATO and European countries. He also had some nice words to say about Pence when he seemed to defend his successor, who had been met with deafening silence by the international community during last month’s Munich Security Conference.
“The fact of the matter is, it was followed on by a guy who’s a decent guy, our vice president, who stood before this group of allies and leaders and said, ‘I’m here on behalf of President Trump,’ and there was dead silence. Dead silence,” Biden told a crowd of more than 300 forum attendees.
A staunch conservative and out-and-proud evangelical Christian, Mike Pence has had a long track record on opposing LGBTQ rights. He’s attacked marriage equality as a member of congress representing Indiana’s 6th district in 2003, he’s enabled the worst HIV outbreak in Indiana’s history as the state’s governor, and has advocated for the removal of healthcare benefits for transgender service members within the U.S. military as a Vice President.
“Mike Pence has made a career out of attacking the rights and equal dignity of LGBTQ people, women and other marginalized communities,” Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin said in a statement. “Now as vice president, he poses one of the greatest threats to equality in the history of our movement.”
Actor and 2018 Democratic New York gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon — the mother of a transgender child, who married her wife in 2012 — took to Twitter to express her frustration: “.@JoeBiden you’ve just called America’s most anti-LGBT elected leader ‘a decent guy.’ Please consider how this falls on the ears of our community.”
To which Biden wrote: “You’re right, Cynthia. I was making a point in a foreign policy context, that under normal circumstances a Vice President wouldn’t be given a silent reaction on the world stage. But there is nothing decent about being anti-LGBTQ rights, and that includes the Vice President.”…..
Note….
Any President , or Vice President (besides Trump) HAS to get along with those of the other party (even if come at things from different points of view) they expect to get things from Congress…..
