Democratic presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris hit Manhattan Thursday for a soul food summit with the Rev. Al Sharpton.
Smiling and greeting well-wishers, the California Democrat stepped into Harlem hangout Sylvia’s to talk politics with Sharpton and court his support for her presidential run.
On the menu were chicken and waffles along with a heaping spoonful of discussion around “criminal justice reform and other critical issues,” according to Sharpton’s civil rights organization National Action Network….

Harris’ sit-down with Sharpton is a ritual for the famous civil rights advocate.
He’s vetted many White House contenders at the eatery and quizzed them on how they would serve the black community. Sanders made the pilgrimage in 2016, and then-candidate Barack Obama did the same in 2007. Neither candidate, however, ultimately received his endorsement for the primary.
After the 20-minute meal, Sharpton said he would consider endorsing Harris and lauded her criminal justice work, but stopped short of backing her.
Sharpton noted that the several dozen supporters who showed up indicated that “she has a lot of support, like Barack Obama did.”….
