The two sides met for several hours today….
Some talking heads think this is a grudgingly good thing…..
The two sides will have working midlevel staff try to iron out talking points….
BUT?
None of this means anything if Donald Trump THINKS he can bully his way thru this by hanging tough for a crazy long period of time…
Such action would surly force Republican Senate Majority Leader McConnell to sit-down and cut a deal with Speaker Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Schumer….
This IS just Trump’s deal making act….
And?
I don’t think Pelosi and the Democrats are gonna roll over on this…
Stay tuned….
Following a meeting with congressional leaders at the White House, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said President Trump told him he would be willing to keep the government shut down for “a very long period of time, months or even years.”
Why it matters: As Axios’ Jonathan Swan reported last April, those who work most closely with Trump say he’s a one-trick pony in negotiations. That trick is to threaten the outrageous, ratchet up the tension, amplify it with tweets and taunts, and then compromise on fairly conventional middle ground. Nonetheless, it seems the White House and congressional leadership have emerged from yet another meeting without a solution to the government shutdown.

At some point, there will be 2/3 majorities in both Chambers to override Trump’s budget vetoes.
Unless Trump pulls a Dutette or Putin and starts bumping off uncooperative legislators.
