I didn’t see the supposedly toned down begging…..
Here’s the calls from around the media…..
President Trump on Tuesday argued the nation is facing a “growing humanitarian and security crisis” at the southern border and said the debate over his proposed wall is a matter of choosing between right and wrong.
“This barrier is absolutely critical to border security,” Trump said in his first address from the Oval Office. “This is just common sense.”
“This is a choice between right and wrong, between justice and injustice,” he added.
Trump said he offered to build a steel wall instead of a concrete barrier “at the request of the Democrats,” even though they made no such request, in an effort to ramp up pressure on them to reopen government by providing funding for the wall.
“How much more American blood must we shed before Congress does its job?” he asked….
In his first national address from the Oval Office on Tuesday night, President Trump cast the state of unauthorized immigration along the southern border with Mexico as “a crisis of the heart and a crisis of the soul,” but did not declare a national emergency, as he suggested he might last week.
The big picture: Trump’s demand for $5.7 billion in funding for his border wall has resulted in a nearly three-week shutdown, currently the second longest in history. There has been a surge of asylum claims and families crossing the southern border this past year, but it is no worse than other increases in recent years, according to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

“Jared Kushner, I am told by a source familiar with the matter. is making the case that after the President’s speech tonight, and after he goes to the border on Thursday, public support will grow towards the Republican side,” reports @mkraju http://cnn.it/2CVXc1w
