President/National:
2020: It’s happening! As previously reported here, Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown (D) has been mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2020, and on Monday, for the first time he admitted to an interest in running. Popular in a swing state that went for Trump, and with a populist, blue-collar reputation, Brown has some clear trumpist strengths as a candidate, but it remains to be seen whether progressives outside Ohio will accept his alleged wife beating past.
2020: This is happening too! State Sen. Richard Ojeda (D) of West Virginia, last seen losing the 3rd district by almost 13%, has registered to run for president. Ojeda has some of the same profile and blue-collar talking points as the Trumpster, but is quite possibly even more deficient in the modesty department.
Impeachment: Despite the progressive base’s shouts for impeachment, a new Morning Consult poll finds that only 33% of the nation agrees with them; 51% disagree. The problem is that 61% of Democrats want it, and that could be a problem for the new House majority.
Rejecting Pelosi: Several Democratic congresscritters are still vocally opposed to Nancy Pelosi again taking the Speaker’s gavel in the 116th Congress. Three fresh faces from Illinois, (plus an old one) have stayed either non-committed or downright hostile to her, saying it is time for a fresh face. Another newly elected Representative with the same views is Elissa Slotkin in MI-8…..
