The comments may surprise some American’s who are against Donald Trump’s efforts to curtail ‘migration’ across the American Southern Border by Central American refugee’s seeking political asylum here….
In an interview with The Guardian, Clinton praised leaders such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel for their humanity toward migrants before adding they need to send a serious message that they might not always be able to “provide refuge and support.”
“I think Europe needs to get a handle on migration because that is what lit the flame,” said Clinton, referring to populists such as President Trump and movements like Brexit. If Europe doesn’t properly deal with the migration issue, “it will continue to roil the body politic,” she said in the interview, which was done before the U.S. midterms but not published until Thursday.
The number of immigrants arriving to Europe has fallen drastically since 2015, after proposals for a 10,000-member European border patrol and Coast Guard agency were considered.
But Clinton wasn’t the only left-leaning politician to concur that immigration rates should be curtailed. Former British and Italian Prime Ministers Tony Blair and Matteo Renzi shared similar views.
“You’ve got to deal with the legitimate grievances and answer them, which is why today in Europe you cannot possibly stand for election unless you’ve got a strong position on immigration because people are worried about it,” said Blair….
