Massachusetts Senate: Diehl vs. Warren |
WBUR/MassINC | Warren 58, Diehl 32 | Warren +26 |
The Democrats’ lead in the race for control of the House is expanding ahead of next month’s midterm elections, according to a new poll.
An updated CBS News/YouGov Battleground Tracker released Sunday projects Democrats to hold 226 seats in the House to Republicans’ 209 seats following November’s elections.
Democrats, who are currently the minority in the House and the Senate, would need to flip at least 23 seats to take control of the lower chamber.
The CBS tracker has a margin of error of 14 seats, meaning the model still gives Republicans a chance of retaining control of the House.
When the tracker was last updated in August, Democrats were expected to win 222 seats, or four fewer than in the newest projection….
President Trump‘s approval rating rose 5 percentage points since late August, but remains well below 50 percent heading into the midterms, according to a poll released Sunday.
An ABC News/Washington Post poll found that 41 percent of adults approve of the president’s job performance, up from 36 percent in late August. The poll found that 54 percent of those surveyed disapprove of Trump’s performance.
Trump was bolstered in the latest poll by strong marks on his handling of the economy, with 49 percent of people approving of his work and 46 percent disapproving….
A new CNN poll finds the public is split over whether they think President Trump will win a second term — 46% say he will and 47% say he won’t.
“But that’s a steep improvement for him since March, when 54% of adults said they thought he’d lose his bid for a second term. The share seeing a second Trump win in the offing has risen across party lines. The increase is a bit sharper among men (up 8 points), independents (from 39% in March to 47% now) and those who are enthusiastic about voting in this year’s midterms (from 37% in March to 46% now).”…

226 seats for the Democrats leaves 209 for the GOP.
If there’s a margin of + / – 14 seats, then the range would be:
from
212 D – 223 R
to
240 D – 195 R (roughly flipping the current balance upside-down).
A bare majority vote is 218-217.
