She’s probably gonna lose her job come January 1 due to next weeks vote….
So I guess in her last tries of desperation she is gonna try to jettison her own….
One week before the midterm elections, Missouri Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskillhas tried to distance herself from the most liberal elements of her party, including high-profile progressive Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.
McCaskill refrained from grouping Sanders or Warren in with the “crazy Democrats” her campaign distanced her from in a radio ad last week. But, in an interview with Fox News on Monday, she invoked their names when asked if any of her colleagues were “crazy Democrats.”
“I would not call my colleagues crazy, but Elizabeth Warren sure went after me when I advocated tooling back some of the regulations for small banks and credit unions,” McCaskill said….
…
In a radio advertisement from McCaskill’s campaign last week, a narrator assured voters that the senator is “not one of those crazy Democrats.”

Who are those, exactly?
“The crazy Democrats are people who walk in restaurants and scream in elected officials’ faces,” McCaskill said in the Fox interview, referring to two separate incidents in which progressive activists have spontaneously begun shouting at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz while they were dining….

Claire McCaskill, as I imperfectly recall, was one of the obstacles to including a public option in ACA exchanges, something also furiously opposed by the Health Insurance Assn of America (which was deviously working both sides of the street on ACA in 2009-10).

McCaskill went on Fox News yesterday and basically tried to say she was a Republican.
It’s her only option at this point. I wouldn’t be shocked if it worked, but she is a definite underdog.

We’ll see. This race will be decided in the STL and KC suburbs.
Democrats picked up two state senate seats in very red corners of each metro area in the past year.
Hawley’s closibg–like all Republicans–is that he is an extension of Donald Trump. Like the party of the pussy grabber, MAGA bomber and caravan conspiracies? You’ll like him.
I didn’t see McCaskiills interview but if she is saying she has some common ground with Republicans who miss the days before Trumpism completely took over their party it may be a good strategy for her.
Because a vote for Hawley is a vote for Trump.
Then again a vote for ANY Republican in 2018 is a vote fot Trump.
George Will sees it. Steve Schmidt sees it. And those guys got paid to be Republicans.
A Never Trumper Republican who votes GOP in 2018 is a chicken voting for Col. Sanders.
CG says
McCaskill, beyond calling her constituents like Scott “crazy” was going out of her way to inflate the number of times she “voted with Donald Trump.” She said Trump can count on her vote when it helps the state.
She also refused to say she was right to have supported Hillary over Trump. She basically hemmed and hawed over it.

She IS in a hard place…..
No doubt…

@NateSilver538
A problem in several of these Senate races, Missouri probably being the best example, is that the mix of polls is very Republican-leaning. Either GOP internals, or quasi-GOP independent pollsters who have big Republican house effects in other races they’ve polled….

Then a Marist or a CNN or even a Fox News will drop into the race—a gold-standard, live caller poll—and show a fairly different picture. You saw that a bit with Marist giving Sinema a lead in Arizona today, for instance.

(Nate seems to be trying to make sure he covers ALL bases….The above two tweets could be used to say ‘I told ya so’ on Nov. 7th if the Democrats actually pull off a hair of majority in the Senate ?)

McCaskill IS in a tough spot…
Democrats need her, but her state seems to be a bit to Red and she has had to dance with the GOPer’s in public….
By knocking Sanders and Warren she is also hurting the small progressive Democratic vote she NEEDS in the state….
She COULD squeak by, but it is highly unlikely…
