It’s 1992. A time traveler pops into the campaign bus of these young Americans and says “Three of you will win the popular vote and only one of you will become President.”

“The one of you who wins the popular vote will also have the most people vote against you”
or
“None of you will ever win a majority of the vote, but the son of the guy you are running against will.”
jamesb says
But you would STILL WIN the popular vote!

Clinton handily won the vote in both Presidential elections where he was tbe Democratic nominee.
The GOP nominees in the 1990s averaged only 39% of the popular vote.

But less people voted against Gore and Hillary than voted against him.
We should have “Caption Contests” on here more often. Great internet fun..

Here’s what you should be happy about…
Democrats with MORE voters were unable to beat Republicans from 2010 to 2016….
Here’s what NOBODY should be happy about….
While there were other reasons?
On face value ?
Looking back one could conclude that the election of the nations first black/mixed President allowed the opposition party to use his color as a springboard for THEIR political power for up to at least the next eight years….
Some would be proud of this….
But most of us would look at this a continuance of America’s race based politics….

Since the GOP’s founding in 1854, Barack Obama is only the sixth person to win an absolute majority of the popular presidential vote twice. The others were Grant, McKinley, Ike and Reagan on the Republican side, and FDR (four times) on the Democratic.
(Between the start of popular presidential voting in 1824 and the GOP’s birth in 1856, the only other candidate to win two absolute majorities was Andrew Jackson in 1828 & 1832, but not 1824.)
