One World Trade Center (also known as 1 World Trade Center, 1 WTC, or Freedom Tower) is the main building of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, and the sixth-tallest in the world. The supertall structure has the same name as the North Tower of the original World Trade Center, which was destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The new skyscraper stands on the northwest corner of the 16-acre (6.5 ha) World Trade Center site, on the site of the original 6 World Trade Center. The building is bounded by West Street to the west, Vesey Street to the north, Fulton Street to the south, and Washington Street to the east….

It’s taken 17 (seventeen) years for the World Trade Center subway station to be rebuilt and for the Shanksville, Pa, monument to be built.
The CMT in Providence who manages my medications is seeing her son just back from deployment to Afghanistan (he’s re-enlisted) nearly 17 years after the start of Operation Enduring Freedom.
And most experts think that the U.S. won’t be able to leave her longest-ever war until there’s a change of policy in Pakistan, which just elected the Prime Minister * most favored by an army which sees an unstable or Taliban-run Afghanistan as some kind of shield against a perceived existential threat from India. (Happy 71st birthday to both countries.)
* Imran Khan, the former international cricket star, running against both Nawaz Sharif (leading a faction of the Pakistan National Congress) and the Pakistan People’s Party of the late Z.A. Bhutto and his late daughter Benazir Bhutto.

Mourners gather at Ground Zero memorial site on 9/11 anniversary…..
More than a thousand mourners Tuesday are marking the 17th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks at the annual ceremony at the Ground Zero memorial site.
Relatives of 9/11 victims turned out on the damp, misty morning for the commemoration that included the reading of the names of all 2,983 people killed in the attacks at the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and aboard Flight 93, as well as those slain in the Feb. 26, 1993, World Trade Center bombing.
Ahead of the official start of the ceremony, bagpipers played as some mourners clutching photos of loved ones walked somberly around the 9/11 memorial plaza and the site’s two massive fountains bearing the names of the dead.
Others placed flowers and small American flags at the inscriptions of the names.
As in years past, six moments of silence were to be observed….
