Barack Obama made a great speech a few days ago….
Presidential….
I can’t seem to stop posting about it….
Why?
Because the speech asks questions as to why American politicians has turned to the way it is ?…..
Not America as a unified country…
But America as a ‘them vs us’ place….
America where people from other countries are looked at as suspect…
Where ‘Nazi loving groups are all right to associate with people of influence in the America government…
Where basic ‘Rights’ are attacked….
It goes on….
Barack Obama made his speech pointing out what he thought was wrong 18 months after he handed the ‘leadership’ of the American government to an NYC Real Estate guy who campaigned AGAINST the America MOST on the 300 Million plus of us want it to be…..
The below linked piece points to something most media types DO NOT admit…..
Republicans knocked the former President lightly for making the speech, which format President’s rarely do….
But few if ANY admitted publicly that Obama hadn’t made some damn good points and observations….(Trump went to sleep, he says instead of getting a headache, one would suppose trying to follow it)
So?
Republicans have moved to look at Obama as someone they can run against come 2018 and 2020…..
They figure that won big in Congressional, State and local races while Obama was President, right?
Of course polling numbers and pundits seem to think the 2010.2012/2016/2019 anti-Obama and Democrats days are GONE…..
So?
The problem for us all has been crystallized in the last week?
What does the American government (Republican led) do about a Republican President that appears to be inept, uninformed, and possibly have taken criminal actions in the past?
Answer right now?
Nothing….
Hold on to see how the midterms turn out and prepare for the worst?
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, who has struggled since the 2016 GOP primaries to distance himself from Trump while also knocking Democrats, woke up on Saturday after the speech with seven tweets trying to thread the needle of that argument. According to one of them:
“Pres. Obama is right. It is wrong for a President to use divisive language, such as:
1. Call all opponents of same-sex marriage bigots
2. Call the Pro-Life movement a ‘War on Women’
3. Call all immigration enforcement advocates racists
4. Call the GOP the enemy of Hispanics.”
Trump isn’t right, Rubio appeared to be suggesting, but neither was Obama. He quoted the former president’s making fun of Nancy Reagan and defending his heavy use of executive orders instead of legislation, and pointed to Obama’s dismissive attitude toward critics of his policies on immigration and the Iran deal.
A pox on both their houses and everyone else, according to Rubio.
“We should ALL, the Dems, the GOP, the media, admit our role in turning politics into theatre,” Rubio tweeted. “Being outrageous equals clicks, viewers & therefore ratings & $ for media & fame for politicians. Being normal gets you ignored & a primary challenger for being ‘too weak.’”….

I’ll be surprised if this is accurate.
He has gotten mentioned (typically by columnist Michael Sneed of the Sun-Times) as having decided to run for every office imaginable for decades now and never does (except one time when he ran for Governor for a couple months.)
His name aside, he will not get very far.
The biggest speculation is on Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, an African-American woman, and her one-time County Board ally “Chuy” Garcia, who ran against Rahm and made the runoff four years ago. Currently, he is the nominee for an open U.S. House seat and of course is going to win that, but is already looking at another move.
Among those currently in the field, based on name recognition alone, the polling leaders are fired Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, who while he insists he is a “proud Democrat” and avowed opponent of Trump, is pretty much considered a pro- law and order Republican type, circa 1993 Giuliani.
The other leading contender, currently in the polls, is self-made African-American millionaire Willie Wilson, who has run before, and likes to hand out bundles of cash to people. He says is a Democrat, but he actually voted for Trump.

Theresa May’s statement yesterday about Brexit negotiations with the EU. Text from the Prime Minister’s official web site:
https://www.gov.uk/government/news/pm-brexit-negotiations-statement-21-september-2018
Yesterday, I was in Salzburg for talks with European leaders.
I have always said that these negotiations would be tough – and they were always bound to be toughest in the final straight.
While both sides want a deal, we have to face up to the fact that – despite the progress we have made – there are two big issues where we remain a long way apart.
The first is our economic relationship after we have left.
Here, the EU is still only offering us two options.
The first option would involve the UK staying in the European Economic Area and a customs union with the EU.
In plain English, this would mean we’d still have to abide by all the EU rules, uncontrolled immigration from the EU would continue and we couldn’t do the trade deals we want with other countries.
That would make a mockery of the referendum we had two years ago.
The second option would be a basic free trade agreement for Great Britain that would introduce checks at the Great Britain/EU border. But even worse, Northern Ireland would effectively remain in the Customs Union and parts of the Single Market, permanently separated economically from the rest of the UK by a border down the Irish Sea.
Parliament has already – unanimously – rejected this idea.
Creating any form of customs border between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK would not respect that Northern Ireland is an integral part of the United Kingdom, in line with the principle of consent, as set out clearly in the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement.
It is something I will never agree to – indeed, in my judgement it is something no British Prime Minister would ever agree to. …
The second issue is connected to the first. We both agree that the Withdrawal Agreement needs to include a backstop to ensure that if there’s a delay in implementing our new relationship, there still won’t be a hard border between Ireland and Northern Ireland.
But the EU is proposing to achieve this by effectively keeping Northern Ireland in the Customs Union.
As I have already said, that is unacceptable. We will never agree to it. It would mean breaking up our country.
We will set out our alternative that preserves the integrity of the UK. And it will be in line with the commitments we made back in December – including the commitment that no new regulatory barriers should be created between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK unless the Northern Ireland Executive and Assembly agree….

The Republican Party now has a 45% favorabilty rating. Its the highest it’s had in seven years and has leaped nine points since last year at this time.
This heightened rating has been driven almost exclusively by Republicans view of their party and by more favorable views by so called Republican leaning “independents “(in other words Republicans who don’t like to call themselves Republicans or what I call ,moral cowards).
You might be surprised about this if you are one of the thousands who come here for your information (haha). Here, you are told how Republicans don’t “really” support Party Leader Donald Trump, that he is constantly losing support , that Republicans don’t support him “strongly,” and other rubbish.

Despite the vocally-expressed wishes of almost everyone else, both Gov. Gina Raimondo (D) and her Republican challenger Allan Fung, mayor of Cranston, steadfastly refused to hold any debates at all, in public or on television, during the primary campaigns that ended two weeks ago on Thursday, Sept. 12th.
The only pre-primary debate of any kind was among the Republican candidates (Mayor Fung, House Minority Leader Rep. Patricia Morgan, and a businessman, Giovanni Feroce) on a weekday morning on an obscure, low-power radio station in Woonsocket that doesn’t reach the whole state.
In addition to Gov. Raimondo (D) and Mayor Fung (R), this week’s debate will include a former House Republican leader, Joe Trillo (running as an independent), who was chairman of Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign in Rhode Island. Rep. Trillo has so far failed to win more than 10% in any public opinion poll of the general electorate.

The “NeverTrumper” movement was never anything more than a few Republicans who don’t like Trump.
Big deal.
So they don’t “like” him.
The media and James,of course, has constantly misrepresented this group as something it wasn’t.
These are all still conservative Republicans.Donald Trump, despite the foolishness you read here, is a conservative Republicn (his past has absolutely no relevance to what he is today) .So why the feigned surprise when they support their fellow”conservative?”
And who gives a damn that they don’t “vote” for him?Whoopee!Talk about gross irrelevancies.
And yes these “ NeverTrumpers” are members of apolitical party led and dominated by Donald Trump.
That’s the simple reality.
CG says
The simplism and sore-loserism is in full display here.
If Flake believes something is the right thing to do, what would be the point of doing the opposite just to spite Trump? That’s not leadership and that’s not correct.
The bottom line is that any fair-minded person has no choice but to reach a conclusion that there was simply no evidence presented to show that Brett Kavanaugh did anything improper. Those who are going to vote against him, were already going to vote against him. It’s sad that there needs to be a façade as a diversion amid that.
Trump has consumed the minds of everyone on the left. Instead of offering a rationale, principle based alternative to him, you have let him do it to you, fallen into all of his traps, and as long as you do, you will deserve what happens.
True opposition to Trumpism will have to be led by others, but that will not include maligning opponents unfairly. Leave that to Trump and the Left.

Did you support Merrick Garland for the 2016 vacancy CG?
CG says
Actually, yes, I said he should be confirmed after Trump got nominated.
In retrospect, I was wrong. This was decided in the Presidential election. I did not vote for Trump, but enough people did because they wanted him and not his opponent to name the next Supreme Court Justice.
The Biden Rule speaks for itself. The Democrats would have done exactly the same thing, especially if a Justice from the opposite spectrum of the President died suddenly.
But yes, clearly what is happening to Kavanaugh is not about people believing he assaulted anyone. I know deep down none of you actually believe that, but about revenge for Garland and revenge for the last election.
Everybody on the Republican side was upfront from Day 1 as to that vacancy. Nobody denied what they were doing and why. Nobody felt they had to invent some sort of “scandal” to use falsely against Garland.
I am willing to be perfectly consistent on this. If a vacancy occurs on the Supreme Court during the year 2020, I believe that we should wait until the next President is elected, that same year, to determine who gets to make that nomination.
