The has FBI reached out to Deborah Ramirez, a woman who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct while they were students at Yale University, the Washington Post reports.
“The FBI has begun contacting people as part of an additional background investigation of Kavanaugh.”
FBI officials will likely try to question some or all of the potential witnesses, in addition to Ford and Kavanaugh. The FBI, however, cannot force interviews in background check investigations, or in criminal investigations for that matter. While witnesses in a criminal case can be subpoenaed to appear before a grand jury, witnesses to a background investigation don’t face a similar law enforcement tool to get them to talk….
NBC News reports that the White House has limited the FBI to interviewing Dr Ford and Patricia Ramírez and is not allowing the Bureau to interview not Julie Swetnick.

I expect nothing more than a perfunctory “inquiry” ,not a real investigation, (a week is not enough time) followed by a bland report that no conclusions were reached, followed by a quick confirmation.
I don’t know these things myself, but everyone in Washington (on both sides) has been saying that FBI reports do not reach conclusions; it only reports the results of investigations, and leaves conclusions to the recipient, whether a prosecutor, a jurist, a legislator, a colleague in law-enforcement or someone else in the executive branch.

Charles Ludington, a college friend of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, told the Washington Post that he will deliver a statement to the FBI on Monday detailing Kavanaugh’s “belligerent and aggressive” drunken conduct while the two were at Yale.
Said Ludington: “When Brett got drunk, he was often belligerent and aggressive. On one of the last occasions I purposely socialized with Brett, I witnessed him respond to a semi-hostile remark, not by defusing the situation, but by throwing his beer in the man’s face and starting a fight that ended with one of our mutual friends in jail.”
Ludington says he was deeply troubled by Kavanaugh appearing to blatantly mischaracterize his drinking in Senate testimony….

NBC News incorrectly reported (as usual) that I was limiting the FBI investigation of Judge Kavanaugh, and witnesses, only to certain people. Actually, I want them to interview whoever they deem appropriate, at their discretion. Please correct your reporting!
