I do not think it will blow over as easily as some things.
I guess it is not a surprise that some Democrats here are only focused on the politics.
Clearly yesterday *almost* every Republican denounced the substance of what was said yesterday and what it represented. That clearly got Trump angry. Yes, of course, there were various degrees of rhetorical severity in how they admonished him but the substance and the policy should theoretically be paramount, should it not?
To some, this is just another excuse to go after Republicans in general. If jack really felt this strongly about the matter he would not be voting for two statewide Republicans in South Carolina this fall. I would be anything they are a lot more “pro-Trump”, at least in official political circles, than me or anyone I will be voting for.
Now, we will have to see if Trump’s poll numbers go down in the short-term. If they don’t, Republicans will continue to be cautious in calling him out by name.
And if they don’t, it shows the American people just do not give a damn, and that is sad for America.
The optic and the vibe that might most upset Trump supporters form yesterday was how weak and subservient he came across.
Once that genie goes out of the bottle, he has fundamental political problems.

In 2016, U.S. Senator Mark Kirk,, the Congressional nominee in my district, and the interim incumbent for State Comptroller all explicitly said they were not voting for Trump. All lost of course.
I would not personally cast a vote for any Republican (even people locally I had been friends with for 15 years if they are pro-Trump, even publicly or privately)
And I absolutely will ask any Republican candidate who approaches me for my vote, as well as continuing to explain to people why they no longer see me at Republican meetings, and events when I run into them at the grocery store, etc.

I’ve been very busy the last couple of days, but you certainly did not miss my posts from when I came home from work yesterday and quoted both John McCain and Joe Walsh.
Yes, Walsh is not really anyone important in the grand scheme of things, but he is someone who voted for Trump and has stood by him “on the issues” until yesterday when he dramatically announced he is done with Trump. Likely, he will lose a lot of listeners on his conservative radio show, but he let his conscience lead him.

Donald Trump has only one basic tactic when dealing with a disaster: Create another one that’s even worse. Sure, he applies his usual gloss of “fake news” and throws out something about a Democrat, usually including a nickname, but over and over again, Trump has found the best way to escape sustained attention on some obvious mistake, destructive action, or malicious comment is simply to do something objectively terrible. No matter what situation has the nation broiling, there’s some comment that will drop jaws, some insult that makes people gasp, some exquisite drop of 200 proof cruelty that will burn the concerns of yesterday right out of heads and headlines. Little Rocket Man! Pocahontas! Very fine people! It’s hard to remember Trump’s latest peccadillo in destroying the environment, civil rights, or foreign policy when the mind has been concentrated by the possibility of incoming missiles or images of kids in cages.
Only a couple of times has this system momentarily failed Trump, forcing him to … not apologize. Trump does not apologize. But he sometimes appears, says the same thing he said before, and everyone agrees to pretend that things are All Better Now….

There’s only one President. Everybody knows who it is.
What the American people, in general are seeing, is near unanimous bipartisan disagreement with his performance in Helsinki.
It is up to the American people to decide if they care or not. To many, foreign policy matters completely insignificant to their lives but the message coming from just about every Republican not named Trump or Rand Paul or Rohrabacher is clear.
If the people care, Trump’s numbers will drop precipitously very shortly. Otherwise, it’s just more evidence to that so many Americans in both parties, it is “the economy stupid” and nothing else.
Still desperately trying to equate all “the American people” with his fellow party members.
The majority of Americans have never supported Trump so this whole “line”is irrelevant.

Yes, most people who approve of him voted for him (or were Republicans who did not vote for him but now feel they have to stand by him) but it is also undeniable that he had the support in 2016 and retains it of a lot of people who had not voted Republican and basically have no use for any Republican other than Trump.
