President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he accepts the conclusions reached by the U.S. intelligence community that there was meddling in the 2016 election, according to wire reports.
Why it matters: Trump’s remarks come after he faced sharp criticism, including from his friends and allies, for his performance during a press conference with Russian president Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on Monday…..
The above statement is Bull Shit….
Plain and simple…
Does the guy understand he just rolled AGAIN?
He doesn’t look strong…
He looks stupid?
Note….
Bush and Obama went thru the same effort of meeting the Russian President, but they did NOT come down on Putin’s side after being advised by their own countries intel people of the Russians actions…
My Name Is Jack says
Maybe to you but to his supporters,i e, 90% of the Republican Party ,this is all they need to hear.
Hey everybody misspeaks occasionally.ll As Keith and I said yesterday, this thing is blowing over quickly.
CG says
I do not think it will blow over as easily as some things.
I guess it is not a surprise that some Democrats here are only focused on the politics.
Clearly yesterday *almost* every Republican denounced the substance of what was said yesterday and what it represented. That clearly got Trump angry. Yes, of course, there were various degrees of rhetorical severity in how they admonished him but the substance and the policy should theoretically be paramount, should it not?
To some, this is just another excuse to go after Republicans in general. If jack really felt this strongly about the matter he would not be voting for two statewide Republicans in South Carolina this fall. I would be anything they are a lot more “pro-Trump”, at least in official political circles, than me or anyone I will be voting for.
CG says
Now, we will have to see if Trump’s poll numbers go down in the short-term. If they don’t, Republicans will continue to be cautious in calling him out by name.
And if they don’t, it shows the American people just do not give a damn, and that is sad for America.
CG says
The optic and the vibe that might most upset Trump supporters form yesterday was how weak and subservient he came across.
Once that genie goes out of the bottle, he has fundamental political problems.
My Name Is Jack says
No it will indicate that most Republicans don’t give a damn.
jamesb says
Trump’s poll numbers HAVE been dropping slightly for the past month…..
My Name Is Jack says
It is not true that “almost” every Republican denounced uh what that term ?Ah yes,”what was said.”
The vast majority of Republicans said nothing at all or most didn’t even mention Trumps name.
Yeah the Republicans care nothing about “politics.”
And gee I’m voting for two Republicans fir some insignificant clerical offices in SC.
As usual, trying desperately to enable the enablers.
CG says
The “mention his name” thing is just a political junkie thing. Yes, those of us who dislike Trump may want them to do it for optimum political mudslinging purposes, but it’s clear who they are talking about.
Ron G. posted the Tweets of dozens and dozens of current Republican officeholders and candidates who expressed their strong disagreement with Trump.
Needless to say, that is not something that would have occurred when Obama was President or even Bush at his politically lowest.
CG says
If you are voting for them, then you are just as much of an enabler as me.
Do you think they did not vote for Trump in November 2016? They likely did, whereas the Republicans I will be voting for almost certainly did not vote for Trump in November 2016.
Your Republicans will win, mine are probably going to lose.
If you are allowed to vote for Republicans, then there is no reason why I shouldn’t either. I hope that is clear to your buddies here.
My Name Is Jack says
Pathetic.
Yeah I’m aTrump supporter .
CG says
Neither of us are Trump supporters jack. Both of us should vote for Republican nominees if they are the best person for the job. Is there any disagreement?
Nonetheless, if I were in your position, I would do some due diligence on this and look into exactly what these nominees for clerical offices actually think of Trump.
I don’t care what office it is, if they are people that are proud and unabashed Trump supporters, I would have a hard time personally voting for them… and I am the “partisan Republican” here..
My Name Is Jack says
Are you seriously claiming you don’t support verbally ,by voting or any other way any Republican who supports Trump?
And how do you even know such a thing?Do you personally ask them?
CG says
I never have yet, and I don’t intend to. (Yes, Rauner kissed up a bit to his former colleague Mike Pence last week and that even has me questioning if I will vote for Rauner now.)
In 2016, U.S. Senator Mark Kirk,, the Congressional nominee in my district, and the interim incumbent for State Comptroller all explicitly said they were not voting for Trump. All lost of course.
I would not personally cast a vote for any Republican (even people locally I had been friends with for 15 years if they are pro-Trump, even publicly or privately)
CG says
And I absolutely will ask any Republican candidate who approaches me for my vote, as well as continuing to explain to people why they no longer see me at Republican meetings, and events when I run into them at the grocery store, etc.
My Name Is Jack says
It has nothing to do with political “junkies.”
Republican officeholders well understand that mentioning the Leaders name in ad derisive manner can have dire consequences.
Its acceptable though to simply support American institutions like the intelligence agencies and now with the Leader having revised” his remarks ,the Republican officeholders can claim that they’re with the Leader.
See?Ths is all working out splendidly!
Don’t worry, be happy.
My Name Is Jack says
I commented this morning that we would know this thing had blown over when CG came back trying to cast all this off on the Democrats.
The only thing missing is the obligatory swipe at Keith about that stuff thirty years ago.
Come on don’t disappoint us!
CG says
I’ve been very busy the last couple of days, but you certainly did not miss my posts from when I came home from work yesterday and quoted both John McCain and Joe Walsh.
Yes, Walsh is not really anyone important in the grand scheme of things, but he is someone who voted for Trump and has stood by him “on the issues” until yesterday when he dramatically announced he is done with Trump. Likely, he will lose a lot of listeners on his conservative radio show, but he let his conscience lead him.
What do you want to know about what Keith did 30 years ago. Are we allowed to discuss it now? Let’s just say that he wound up not doing his party (or at least the side of his party in the battle) any good.
My Name Is Jack says
What? All these little snarky remarks you make about Keith anytime he says anything means you’re not talking about him.
Could have fooled me.
You’re hilarious!
CG says
I was told I was not allowed to go into details about his sordid political past.
Even if I were, out of common courtesy, I would refrain from actually linking to all the stuff on the internet, because it contains his last name.
My Name Is Jack says
Yes you’re very considerate .
That’s why you bring it up here daily.
You already went into the “details” right before you were kicked out.
Save us all from from your sickening sanctimonious blabber.
CG says
Oh, it’s nowhere near daily. You were the one that brought it up today.
Believe me, if I had any sort of those skeletons, you all would have been talking about it for years.
Keith2018 says
He never disappoints Jack, his obsession with me is alive and well.
We have perhaps six posters here and they all know this story. Not sure why we continue to go back there, like I am baffled by his interest in your voting history.
It appears that he trots these things out when he can no longer defend his Party’s collusion with Donald Trump.
But the statement that almost all the Republicans were critical of Trump. Define almost.
CG says
You can basically count on one hand the number of Republicans who issued statements yesterday in which they expressed agreement with or support for Trump.
Rand Paul, Rohrabacher (whom I hope Keith doesn’t cause to get reelected), Thomas Massie, and hopeless Congressional nominee Seth Grossman in NJ.
When you have Newt Gingrich and the Mooch on tv saying how bad this is for Trump, that means it’s bad.
My Name Is Jack says
The House Freedom Caiucus reiterated their support for him today.
That’s more than uh “one hand”
CG says
link?
CG says
did they say they agreed with him on Russia vs. Intelligence Community?
My Name Is Jack says
He’s just desperately trying to defend the Donald Trump Republican Party of which despite all his almost comical prevaricating, he remains a devoted member.
CG says
No, we have already established that you have far less concern about and are more willing to vote for pro-Trump Republicans than I am.
So, hypocrisy, “thy name is jack.”
My Name Is Jack says
Being called a hypocrite by someone who appears here daily defending the Republican Party and who seriously tries to claim that he has never voted or supported in any way any Republican who supports Donald Trump is an honor of which any person may be justly proud.
Be proud of your party !
CG says
Give me a name of one pro-Trump Republican I have voted for or donated money to or have volunteered on behalf of.
You won’t be able to.
But you said you will vote for Molly Spearman to Education Commissioner.
She certainly endorsed Donald Trump in 2016.
http://blogs.edweek.org/edweek/campaign-k-12/2016/07/backing_donald_trump_state_schools_chief_despite_concerns.html
Before you vote, ask her if she stands by the endorsement and if she still thinks Trump will “become a better person.”
If so, I don’t think I could vote for her.
My Name Is Jack says
I am glad to know though that you don’t “support” Republicans who support Trump.
All of us here should remember this.
He doesn’t support Republicans who support Trump!
CG says
So, it sure sounds like you are conceding that you cannot name one single Republican candidate I have voted for, donated money to, volunteered time for, or attended any sort of event for, that is “pro-Trump.”
But you will vote for Trump endorsing Republican incumbents because the “real jack” and the “political blog jack” are apparently not as “black and white” as you would have us believe.
My Name Is Jack says
Oh so the standard is “give money to”or “volunteered on behalf of?”
That’s funny.
How about Mitch McConnell ?Do you “support”him?
How about Paul Ryan?Do you you “support”him?
How about Kevin McCarthy?Do you support him?
CG says
No, I don’t “support” Mitch McConnell.
Never been a constituent of his. Never wanted him to seek the Presidency, etc. Like anyone else who has capitulated to Trump, I have criticized McConnell on those grounds. I have wanted him to defeat Democrat opponents in the past (as well as Tea Party primary challengers), but that was during the pre-Trump era. I have agreed with McConnell on many issues and political tactics over the years but I also agree with various Democrats from time to time. That doesn’t mean I “support” them.
My Name Is Jack says
And how about Mitt Romney who in February “happily accepted” the endorsement of Donald Trump?
Do you really “support” someone who accepted Trumps endorsement?
CG says
I was happy to vote for Paul Ryan to be Vice President at one point but that was pre-Trump. Ryan is no longer running for office. No, I don’t “support” him and have criticized him for his takes on Trump. Of course, I still agree with him on many other issues.
Not a Kevin McCarthy fan. I would prefer Republicans select a different leader. No, I don’t “support” McCarthy.
My Name Is Jack says
This has gotten surrealistic.
CG says
Mitt Romney criticized Trump by name yesterday in very forceful terms.
Yes, I have supported him in the past and I support him now. We all know he did not vote for Trump and was extremely visible in speaking out against Trump during the last campaign.
I am glad Trump concedes (for now) that Romney is a straight-shooter.
If Romney ever endorses Trump for any office, I guarantee I will revoke my “support” for Romney.
CG says
Yeah, why should I give a damn if Trump endorses them (and Trump has certainly endorsed enough of the guys in your party over the years) as long as they do not endorse Trump.
Romney pulled off quite a feat. He got Trump to endorse him without really giving anything in return (see his statement yesterday). In that regard, Romney is a bit like the American Putin.
CG says
“President Trump’s decision to side with Putin over American intelligence agencies is disgraceful and detrimental to our democratic principles,”
Mitt Romney, yesterday.
Yes, I support him, and you guys should too, especially as former Obama voters who should realize how right he was about Russia then and what a disservice the opposition did to him at the time on the issue.
He seems to be far more worthy of your support than the South Carolina Republicans you support who almost certainly voted for Trump and would do so again.
CG says
Here is the full Romney statement:
“President Trump’s decision to side with Putin over American intelligence agencies is disgraceful and detrimental to our democratic principles. Russia remains our number one geopolitical adversary; claiming moral equivalence between the United States and Russia not only defies reason and history, it undermines our national integrity and impairs our global credibility.”
Does anyone here, in 2018, now disagree with one word?
If I were running this blog, the Tweet would have its own post, as a reminder of how right on this issue Mitt Romney is and has been and how wrong the last two Presidents have been.

This is NOT getting better for Trump….
jamesb says
Trump didn’t apologize for treason, he’s not going to apologize for treason, and the GOP knows it
Donald Trump has only one basic tactic when dealing with a disaster: Create another one that’s even worse. Sure, he applies his usual gloss of “fake news” and throws out something about a Democrat, usually including a nickname, but over and over again, Trump has found the best way to escape sustained attention on some obvious mistake, destructive action, or malicious comment is simply to do something objectively terrible. No matter what situation has the nation broiling, there’s some comment that will drop jaws, some insult that makes people gasp, some exquisite drop of 200 proof cruelty that will burn the concerns of yesterday right out of heads and headlines. Little Rocket Man! Pocahontas! Very fine people! It’s hard to remember Trump’s latest peccadillo in destroying the environment, civil rights, or foreign policy when the mind has been concentrated by the possibility of incoming missiles or images of kids in cages.
Only a couple of times has this system momentarily failed Trump, forcing him to … not apologize. Trump does not apologize. But he sometimes appears, says the same thing he said before, and everyone agrees to pretend that things are All Better Now….
CG says
There’s only one President. Everybody knows who it is.
What the American people, in general are seeing, is near unanimous bipartisan disagreement with his performance in Helsinki.
It is up to the American people to decide if they care or not. To many, foreign policy matters completely insignificant to their lives but the message coming from just about every Republican not named Trump or Rand Paul or Rohrabacher is clear.
If the people care, Trump’s numbers will drop precipitously very shortly. Otherwise, it’s just more evidence to that so many Americans in both parties, it is “the economy stupid” and nothing else.
My Name Is Jack says
Still desperately trying to equate all “the American people” with his fellow party members.
The majority of Americans have never supported Trump so this whole “line”is irrelevant.
His drop in support would be among Republicans if there is any.If not, it will indicate Republicans don’t care,
CG says
Trump’s JA numbers and the like are composed of all the American people.
A lot more people like Trump than just Republicans. His numbers, at present, are higher than what Obama had throughout most of his Presidency. We will see if that changes.
You are the one who once said here that “we get the President we deserve.” I understood the point you were making and thought it was an accurate one. Don’t back away from the truth of that now.
My Name Is Jack says
Trumps numbers as you well know are almost all made up of Republicans and “independents” who vote Republican.
And as stated he has never had the support of the majority of Americans.
His number, supportwise, have been in the range of about 38% to 43% .
There is no contradiction between my statement and this fact.
CG says
No, he isn’t polling over 50, but has definitely been in the mid 40s. That takes a lot more than just self-identified Republicans.
Yes, most people who approve of him voted for him (or were Republicans who did not vote for him but now feel they have to stand by him) but it is also undeniable that he had the support in 2016 and retains it of a lot of people who had not voted Republican and basically have no use for any Republican other than Trump.
My Name Is Jack says
Donald Trumos supporters are almost all Republican voters.
Indeed that’s why Republican officeholders don’t want to anger his supporters because they depend on their votes too.
What? are these Trump voters going to vote for Trump and then the Democrats?
Hilarious obfuscating.
CG says
The facts are that a lot of Trump 2016 voters did also vote for Democrats down the ballot.
You can look at the results Congressional district by Congressional district.
(and you also had Hillary voters who voted Republican down the ballot in higher numbers too.)
Keith2018 says
I would like to see that list of Republicans who denounced Trump’s words in Finland.
That train came to a screeching halt when Trump came out and apologized for his “misstatement” today.
These mopes will never leave the Great Leader and the Freedom Caucus did rush out to defend Trump.
The Republicans are enabling treason and sitting around with their thumbs up their asses while he figuratively takes a dump on their heads.
George Will is right, our only course of action is to vote Democratic in November.
Keith2018 says
Of course it will blow over quickly, as I type this at least two Republicans are on television right now excusing Trump with the old “they all do it” excuse. Of course Rand Paul told us this was all Hillary’s fault.
The vast majority of the Republicans who have been critical of Trump are not on the ballot this November. McConnell’s response was pathetic and the silence is deafening.
Trump’s remarks were treasonous and the Republicans remain muted in their response. That’s just a fact, a sad one at that.
