Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on Tuesday fiercely denied allegations that he failed to stop a sports physician from sexually abusing student athletes at Ohio State University (OSU) when he was a wrestling coach there.
Jordan told Politico in an interview that he would have intervened had he known about the doctor’s alleged behavior.
“It’s not true,” Jordan told Politico. “I never knew about any type of abuse. If I did, I would have done something about it. And look, if there are people who are abused, then that’s terrible and we want justice to happen.”
Three former wrestlers at OSU told NBC News that the abuse by the doctor was an open secret and that Jordan almost certainly knew about the alleged behavior.
The doctor, Richard Strauss, would shower with student athletes regularly and would touch them inappropriately during appointments, the former wrestlers told NBC News….

Trump said he thinks the former wrestlers are liars and that he believes Jordan.
And what better character witness for ole Jim!
jamesb says
Jordan is toast
A second wrestler has come forward
He won’t survive this…..
Even if he IS a Republican…
My Name Is Jack says
I’m not ready to write him off.
Jordan is not the type to go softly into that good night.
You sarcastically cite Trump as a character witness?I think his position on Jordan will find favor with most Republicans.
And Jordan represents a very Republican district.
My Name Is Jack says
This might do Jordan in as candidate for Speaker though.
Indeed something similar happened to the present front runner for Speaker if Republicans retain control of the House.
Remember that Kevin McCarthy was a front runner for the position when Boehner stepped down(Ryan originally wasn’t even a candidate). Then he went on tv and essentially admitted that the whole Benghazi “ investigation “ was a partisan hit job on Hillary Clinton(Jordan was a prominent member of the committee). His candidacy basically collapsed and Ryan was drafted to take the position.
Now McCarthy has been forgiven for his candor and is the leading candidate for the post.
Jordan might suffer a similar fate as McCarthy but can take heart from MCs comeback. He might just have to wait a little longer.

If the Democrats can’t make this into an Al Franken moment they need to be sued for malpractice.

Agreed Keith…..

The way this scandal is developing, Rep. Jim Jordan will be lucky to avoid prison
jamesb says
This is guys Jack…
Jordan is sinking into deep shit….
Zreebs says
I recall Jordan’s aggressive inquiries to Hillary on Benghazi. he should have the face a similar aggressive inquiry. Jordan appears to be implying that the men are lying about his complicity. if his accusers are lying, then they should be criminally charged.
Look what happened to Joe Paterno. Not sure this is that much different.
jamesb says
It’s up to 5 guys on Jordan…
I say again…
He’s toast…..
Zreebs says
I agree with James on this one. The odds are probably against Jordan. Evangelicals are notoriously forgiving of sexual misdeeds among their own, but less so when gay sex is involved.
jamesb says
This is about the non-consensual part more than anything else, I think…
jamesb says
But he’s in serious political trouble for sure….
My Name Is Jack says
Jordan may have a real problem now.
Apparently ,Fox News ,the unofficial voice of Trump and the Republican Party, is now questioning his denials, noting that some of his accusers appear totally credible and indeed are otherwise friendly to Jordan.
None of this is of course keeps the Right Wing extremist from labeling it all a”deep state” plot of some kind.
Has Fox News joined this mythical fantasy, the “deep state,”i.e.,anybody opposed to Trump and his fellow Republicans.
scott says
For Republicans it only matters what their cult leader Trump says about Jordan. If he sticks with him they will too, no matter what else cones out.
If he cuts him loose Jordan is toast.
A sad state of affairs for the GOP but what do you expect when their leader who has bragged of groping women and mocked the Me Too movement enjoys a 90% approval rating within the shrinking party?
jamesb says
I believe like Pruitt?
Jordan will have to go with the media Tsunami continuing….
Trump simply cannot have something like this damage the party brand….
My Name Is Jack says
Pruitt road it out for over a year.
Reports are that CofS Kelly called him and told him Trump wanted his resignation.Thats what forced him out.
I stated the other day that I was agnostic on whether Jordan would go quietly or not.
So far there hasn’t been a peep from Republicans except for a vote of confidence from the arty leader.
scott says
I know Jordan’s district is safe R but if there are any flippable districts in Ohio the GOP candidates need their felt held to the fire on this.
scott says
Feet held to the fire
jamesb says
I’m still on the record as he’s toast….
More people keep coming forward to cement the reports…
My Name Is Jack says
No honest person can seriously doubt the reports.
They come from a disparate group of men ,some of whom even seem to personally like Jordan.but are just stating matter-of -factly relating as to what happened.
So the question isn’t,in my view, whether the reports are true, but, rather, whether, without outside pressure, Jordan fesses up ,then, whether or when such causes his stepping down .
A good indication will be when fellow conservatives start asking him to or at least hint that he should.
Of course,as Scott stated,if Trump abandons him?Its game,set,match.
This could linger for awhile.
Keith2018 says
There is a process that should be followed, not that it has recently (see Al Franken).
This will, however, ultimately impact the whole state ticket if it goes on too long.
The Republican Indiana Secretary of State has a grab ass problem too. I hope he hangs in there too.
A culture of corruption is descending on the Republican Party.
jamesb says
Yes indeed…
You lay down in the dirt with someone?
You get dirty

The Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, which Jordan was a founding member of,Mark Meadows(R-NC) is urging his fellow caucus members to stand behind Jordan.
No other members have issued any statements that I’m aware of.

They can urge all they want

And the numbers keep increasing and the media exspousre also
Other GOPer’s gonna get nervous
Midterms are right around the corner

Jordan three days ago: “I never knew about any type of abuse … If I did, I would have done something about it.” Jordan now: I thought you guys were just joking around about being sexually abused….
Zreebs says
Jordan has now changed his story now that even Fox News doesn’t Believe him. He now says he had heard of the allegations, but he thought it was just “locker room” talk.
Jordan’s district in northern Ohio is heavily gerrymandered, so his seat is safe.

The Education Department started an investigation into how Ohio State University officials handled complaints against a doctor accused of sexually abusing athletes.
The case also alleges Republican Rep. Jim Jordan turned a blind eye as the coach….
