From the NY Daily News….
Terrified employees at a rural Maryland newspaper threw themselves underneath their desks when a shotgun-wielding man stormed into their newsroom and opened fire on Thursday, killing five people and wounding several others, according to eyewitnesses and authorities.
A suspect was arrested shortly after shots rang out at the Capital Gazette’s office in Annapolis around 3 p.m., Anne Arundel County executive Steve Schuh said during a press conference at the scene.
“I don’t know what to say except our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families,” Schuh said of the five victims.
Schuh said multiple people were “gravely injured” in the shooting.
A federal law enforcement official told the Associated Press the suspect is a white male armed with a shotgun. The official said the suspect wasn’t cooperating with investigators, who were trying to interrogate him Thursday afternoon.

One of the people killed trained my nephew when he was a spanking new sports writer for the Baltimore Sun. My nephew is very upset.

Fox News host Sean Hannity, who has a cozy relationship with President Trump, didn’t wait for the gun smoke in Maryland to clear before linking the deadly Capital Gazette newsroom shooting with Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters’ rhetoric….

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), “whose call for public protests of Trump administration officials has triggered a debate over civility in politics, said Thursday that she has canceled events in Texas and Alabama this weekend due to a ‘very serious death threat’ made against her,” the Washington Post reports.
Waters said that after President Trump took aim at her on Twitter on Monday, “even more individuals are leaving threatening messages and sending hostile mail to my office.”

So the Republican President calls the press “the enemy of the people” and a gun man kills five reporters and FOX news blames a 79 year old black woman.
Makes sense right?
Expect more lectures from Republicans about civility.
Orwell was right.

Donald Trump makes NO BONES about it…
He LOVES strong autocratic leaders
He images himself as that
He IS moving to live that dream
Anything that stands in his way?
He attacks
Be it the FBI, Republicans , the Law or WHATEVER….
Trump plays into the American public’s wanting ‘strong’ President’s….
He also understands the American media’s fascination with ANYTHING DIFFERENT….
Trump cares NOT for civility
He just wants to be Strong and change things to fit his reality

She used an analogy, not to be taken literally, in what I think is an overheated, over the top, inappropriate way.
Scott, you have been doing the same thing online for years. I try not to take your comments literally either a lot of the time. The difference is she is more famous than you.

Weak defense.

I’m not defending her. I am just saying you do the same thing, i.e, Republicans should die in a fire, threatening violence against me, etc.
What Milo Y. said the other day is far worse.

Interesting Scott….
Trump gave a speech today defending the media after the Maryland shooting….
I’m guessing it was heartfelt since Trump needs the media to carry his message to world….
Keith2018 says
Oh yes, and like many Republicans she loves it.
Amazing, five reporters are dead after Trump called the media the enemy of the Nation and the conversation is about something the junior Senator from New York has said.
And Trump sends his “thoughts and prayers.” Do we think he prays?

In this particular Maryland case, the facts we now know is that neither Donald Trump’s horrific “media are the enemy of the people” rhetoric (as well as Milo Y’s very recent proclamation that he wants journalists gunned down) or Maxine Waters’ horrible incitement to violence and misunderstandings had anything to do with this shooting. The guy had his own problem with the newspaper and it is tragic.
But both Trump and those on the other side who have committed violence or revel in the possibility of it are a big part of the problem.
Keith2018 says
Once again, a false equivalency.
Huge difference between Trump pointing at reporters and telling his assembled adoring crowd that those people are your enemy, and one Member of Congress encouraging protest.
But, blame the black woman.
Why even some of the victims family members are saying that ultimately the President’s rhetoric encouraged this tragedy.
It’s particularly galling that the Republican Members of Congress have been silent on Trump’s relentless attacks on the press and free speech.
But our Republican friend continues to support all of Trump’s policy proposals while simultaneously saying he opposes Trump.
It gets old to say the least. But for fuck sake, at least have the honesty to condemn him without the usual “whataboutisms.”
Too much to ask I fear.

President Trump, delivering his first remarks following the deadly shooting at the Capital Gazette newsroom Thursday, defended journalists, saying they should be free to do their jobs without having to worry about their own safety.
“Journalists, like all Americans, should be free from the fear of being violently attacked while doing their job,” he said at an event marking the six-month anniversary of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act Friday…..
