Maybe it’s because Schmidt has been working over at MSNBC where the news isn’t coming from the brainwashed Trump people…
Maybe Not?
There ARE GOPer’s who do NOT like what Trump, Sessions and Miller are doing against immigrants trying to come to America…
This guy jumped ship….
Good for him…
A prominent Republican strategist, who worked on the campaigns of former President George W. Bush and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), renounced the Republican Party early Wednesday morning, citing his revulsion to President Donald Trump and the administration’s family separation policy as the final straw.
Steve Schmidt, who is a political analyst for MSNBC and has been regularly vocal about his distaste for Trump, said he now plans to vote independently and align himself with Democrats. He called that party the “only party left in America that stands for what is right and decent and remains fidelitous to our Republic, objective truth, the rule of law and our Allies.”
With Trump at the helm, Schmidt said the GOP has become “corrupt, indecent and immoral,” with the exception of just a few Republican governors. He decried GOP leaders Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), invoking the spirit of Republican darling President Ronald Reagan, who he said would be “ashamed” of the Party for remaining complacent while “this corrupt government establishes internment camps for babies.”
“Today the GOP has become a danger to our democracy and values,” he said….

Let me know when one of those exists again.
Zreebs says
I agree with Schmidt’s comments and have felt that way for awhile.
CG says
Just about every Republican elected official from Susan Collins to Ted Cruz have called on this policy to end and have worked to try to bring about alternatives to stop it. All have said that Trump alone has the power to stop it. They will have to reconcile the reasons why he seemingly does not want to stop it and is being dishonest about it. They tend to at least be serious people though who recognize the policy and political components of this issue.
What I see also of course those are online Trumpists who go to any length to double down and defend Trump on *anything.* Hillary was right when she said they were deplorable.
Zreebs says
About 1/2 of GOP voters who have an opinion agree with Trump’s policy of isolating the children from their parents and 1/2 oppose it, but Democrats and to a lesser extent Independents are almost exclusively opposed to the policy.
Keith says
Zreebs makes a good point, it was 52% of the self-identified Republicans that support Trump’s policy of separating out children from their parents, but then again over 50% of the Republicans also believe that millions of illegals voted in the 2016 election (their explanation for why the “Great White Hope” lost the popular vote.
I find it very disappointing that Republicans on the Hill haven’t moved on immigration reform (they can’t even get enough of them to sign a discharge petition to move a compromise bill in the House). And, this self-made Republican crisis hasn’t really changed that dynamic. They refuse to act and the Republican President blames the Democrats.
The new CYA detention policy the White House is talking about will be also be written by the Shanda Steven Miller. Let’s see how this works out.
For the amount of evil that is now seeping from the White House you would expect more outrage on the part of the Republicans on the Hill. I guess, like Trump, they have trouble finding their balls in the morning too.
Zreebs says
I don’t expect more outrage from Republicans on the Hill. Yes, there are some who just don’t Have the courage to do what they know is right, but there are at least as many who are willing to sacrifice the children’s mental health in order to punish the chjldten’s parents. Unfortunately, that is the moral compass of the GOP today.
jamesb says
They are gonna try to pass something in the House
I say ‘Try’
The prospects are reportedly not good

I’m surprised to hear you say the words “Hillary was right”.
CG says
She was right on the point as it related specifically to the people who feel the overwhelming necessity to defend Donald Trump at all costs.
Nonetheless, she painted with too broad of a brush and her public utterance of those words almost certainly cost her the Presidency.
jamesb says
Her words specifically I don’t think cost her the election
Her actions, or more to the point, lack of action sealed her fate….
BTW?
I’m glad she hasn’t disappeared from the political world
CG says
Even more deplorable than the heartless Trump deplorables is actor Peter Fonda who Tweeted that Barron Trump should be kidnapped and placed in a cage with pedophiles.
Nice going. I guess Samantha Bee and Robert DeNiro didn’t get their message across forcefully enough. The Trump people will be talking about this for weeks too, just like the other side would if some horrific person said that about Sasha or Malia Obama.
The allies that you guys have in Hollywood are you going to ruin your party’s chances at anything if they keep this up.
jamesb says
No they won’t CG….
Trump isn’t off the hook here
They probably have to figure out how to process families now in 20 days
Also?
PEOPLE KEEP COMING CG
THEY ARE NOT GONNA STOP

Reality check
I was watching the CBS Evening News tonight and found out some interesting things,…
It seems that there are so many people asking for asylum that the Border Cops actually HAVE TO DO ‘Catch and release’ ….
Like they ALWAYS HAVE….
I’m sure they don’t know this in Washington
But the system is ALREADY OVERWHELMED…
Keeping the families intact will make things WORST….
I’ve said here in the past
The people will CONTINUE to come

Oscar-nominated actor Peter Fonda apologizes for tweet suggesting Barron Trump should be ripped from the first lady’s arms ‘and put in a cage with pedophiles.’

I also was surprised that CG would even give a conditional agreement with something Hillary said. This is a stunning development. We will all remember this day in five years – although we will likely forget why he conditionally agreed with her.
Zreebs says
Steve Schmidt always struck me as a good guy. He was a frequent commentator on MSNBC and I felt he always tried to be objective. I always felt that what he shared on the air was what he genuinely believed, and he was willing to critize both parties when it was appropriate. Glad he will align with the Democrats. I wonder who he will support in the Democratic primaries?
jamesb says
We’ll see if Steve stays with the Democrats…
