This is about the tenth time Donald Trump has changed direction on immigration policy….
Back a year and a half ago he said he wanted to get something done…..
But since then?
He has see sawed back and forth between supporting immigration reform efforts and being against them…
One thing has been consistent …
He his still begging for money for a ‘wall’…..
Something Congress has NOT done for him….
This latest effort fell apart yesterday with House Republicans not even agreeing among themselves on a conservative immigration bill….
They were talking about a compromise bill vote for next week….
But for now?
That might not work….
Oh, and Trump’s feeling is that Republicans will get more lawmakers that will support his agenda in the November elections….He believes the will not be enough Democratic gains to give them a majority in the House….
Hmmmmmm?
Republican lawmakers should “stop wasting their time” trying to pass comprehensive immigration reform and wait until after the upcoming November midterm elections, President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter Friday, suggesting that such legislation will be easier once the “red wave” of Republicans he has predicted is swept into office.
“Republicans should stop wasting their time on Immigration until after we elect more Senators and Congressmen/women in November,” the president wrote online. “Dems are just playing games, have no intention of doing anything to solves this decades old problem. We can pass great legislation after the Red Wave!”
Trump’s legislative suggestion comes as House GOP leaders have struggled in recent days to whip support for a pair of immigration bills, including one authored by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) that failed to pass on Thursday. The House is expected to vote on leadership-backed “compromise” immigration legislation next week, although its prospects for success are uncertain.
The president had previously cast doubt on the House’s immigration bills, suggesting that those efforts are pointless. “What is the purpose of the House doing good immigration bills when you need 9 votes by Democrats in the Senate, and the Dems are only looking to Obstruct (which they feel is good for them in the Mid-Terms),” Trump wrote on Thursday morning….
Note…
None action by Congress keeps the Trump admin in control of the immigration policy…..
The only changes they have made have been reaction to court orders….
There ARE several more court challenges coming their way…
….
This IS a norm for Trump….
Example ‘s have been in Healthcare and Defense Budget legislation…
via twitter….
The same situation his entire presidency whenever there’s a tough vote. Members don’t want to do it unless he explicitly gives them cover, Trump doesn’t want to commit to anything and has no shame about breaking commitments when he does.
