As with TPP and the Climate Treaty?
As Donald Trump withdraws from more and international agreements?
The remaining parties agree to go it without Trump’s Admin….
Trump’s clumsy attempt to get a better deal from Iran is going to put him at odds with the European’s on another thing besides trade….
More and more Trump’s Foreign Policy signals a move to nationalism and with that?…
Isolation that Obama fought so hard to move away from…
France’s foreign minister declared on Wednesday that the Iran nuclear deal “is not dead,” despite President Trump‘s decision to pull the U.S. out of the pact.
“The deal is not dead. There’s an American withdrawal from the deal but the deal is still there,” Jean-Yves Le Drian told RTL radio, according to Reuters.
He said that French President Emmanuel Macron would speak to his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani about preserving the deal, before entering into high-level talks with Germany, the United Kingdom and Iran.
“The region deserves better than further destabilization provoked by American withdrawal,” Le Drian said, according to Reuters. “So we want to adhere to it and see to it that Iran does too, that Iran behaves with restraint.”….

Senator Jeff Flake, probably the leading NeverTrumper in the Senate has labeled the Trump action,”foolhardy.”
Interesting because our resident NeverTrumper supports Trumps move..
CG says
No, the post I had yesterday associates myself in part with Flake’s concerns, which I think are valid.
Flake and I completely agree that the Obama Iran Deal was absolutely horrific and idiotic. What is the best thing to do now? I don’t really know. It’s probably above my pay grade. Maybe Trump and his advisors are right, Maybe Flake (and others like Ed Royce, Mac Thornberry, and other Congressional Republicans who opposed the deal but question the wisdom of leaving now) are right.
My Name Is Jack says
What “ part” of Flakrs position do you agree with?
Do you support Trumps announced withdrawal from the Iran deal or not?
CG says
That it can cause concerns about American commitment, bring about a possible snag with NK, (although that seems to be muted with the hostage release now). Flake certainly voted against it, (as did people like Schumer and Menendez who have stated the same concerns now)
My position is since there is no way to “put the toothpaste back in the tube” (i.e. reinstate the international sanctions) what is the best way to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon.
This deal, which Obama of course kept from the Congressional treaty requirements, was horrible to that regard. I don’t want to see a hole get bigger though.
My Name Is Jack says
You didn’t answer the question,
Once again, do you support Trumps move of yesterday because, quite obviously by his statement yesterday, Flake apparently doesn’t.
CG says
I don’t know the answer, as I have said. You have to accept that. I am willing to accept my limitations that I do not have all the information or experience that the leaders of our government have. It’s all too easy for tribalists on both sides to just find the corner with their people and stand there. I hope Trump is right on this, just as I hoped Obama was right on the matter, even as I feared he was not.
CG says
This position is also consistent with those of two candidates I supposed for President, Mitt Romney and Jeb Bush.
They both have taken the position that the deal was a bad one, but what happens next depends on our ability to work with our allies to achieve a goal and that a new, better deal should be worked out and made permanent and enforceable.
CG says
John Kasich (whom I voted for in a primary as a third or fourth option) has made it clear that he opposes this move by Trump.
So, if Kasich runs against Trump, in any venue, there will be a clear distinction between the two. And if Kasich is also ever on a stage with a Democrat who supported this deal from the start, there will be another clear difference on it.
My Name Is Jack says
So you have “no position.”
All of us should remember this the next time you start hectoring someone here demanding “answers” to this, that and the other as Qyou often do.
Apparently ,in your view, answering “no position “ is a respectable answer.
CG says
I have a nuanced position.
Some things are in black and white (such as sexual assault is always unacceptable). Others, as they relate to delicate policy matters and unknown outcomes are not always black and white/Ric Flair vs. Dusty Rhodes.
CG says
If somebody does not have all the information to make the most possible informed decision, they should state so, as I stated as an option to Zreebs yesterday, and to which he took on the very controversial BDS matter.
Since I also happened to hastily make some incomplete factual (but periphery) errors in that discussion myself, I think it is more important for people to have the best information possible first.
My Name Is Jack says
There is,in my view, quite a difference between a policy maker,ie, the President of the United States , needing information on making major policy decisions and some people posting comments on a political blog stating their opinions.
Of course, none of us will be privy to the type of information policy makers have at their disposal.Indeed, most of us will be limited to news reports or such information one may gleen from various websites accessed through google or other search engines.
Quite obviously, based on your stated opposition to the Iran agreement, one would think that you would support,in principle at least, Trumps abrogation of that agreement.
I suspect that one reason you hesitate to take such a position is due to the fact that it is Trump doing the act and that you might be in favor of such action if there was another Chief Executive doing it,
CG says
Yeah, it’s more irrelevant what we think. Still, I like to be appropriately thoughtful when it comes to things instead of just spouting off. People realize that on most matters, I have no problem taking a position. Not everything is the same though.
If there was a different Chief Executive who made this decision that I actually trust, and who has proven himself or herself worthy of trust, then of course, I might be more inclined to be confident it was the right move.
I have no qualms at all in stating that Trump was right to say during the campaign to this day how horrible the Iran Deal was. But I have no idea if a serial liar like him even truly believes it himself or understands why.
I hope he is right now, even if he gets the credit for it. Same with North Korea. I have been and continue to be skeptical about his methods and tactics on that relationship, but I have to concede that it is possible it might actually work. Time will tell.

Warning!
Trump is saying he will not continue to sign off on the certification for the deal as requested by Congress….
He ha said outright this IS. A negotiating tactic….
As I pointed out in yesterday’s comments?
He might not get a damn thing out of this
If the European’s band together and go on with it?
Trump will be actually helping them make more money at this countries expense

Ah, my words come back hete

And making a call and then changing it when more info becomes evident……

It appears that the Texan has not completely forgiven James for banning him. I doubt that James would accept an invitation for lunch from him.
Zreebs says
James deleted the Texan’s comments, so my above comment looks meaningless by itself.
Anyway, let’s just say that the Texan did not go out of his way to praise or flatter James, and my best guess is that he isn’t quite ready to do so. I believe that both the Texan and James would agree with that assessment.
