With 27 candidates for governor and 32 people running for Senate, there’s no easy way to survey voters on every single candidate, said Tulchin. He uses a mix of telephone and online polling.
“We can test the full ballot online and shorten it for the phones,” he said. “But candidates who have raised money and are communicating with voters are still the top tier.”
But Adam Probolsky, an Orange County pollster, said the only solution is to bite the bullet and list every candidate, even in telephone surveys.
“Replicate the ballot,” he said. “Pollsters often condense the field, but that just shows what happens to the top several candidates.”….
