This in response to the media fall out from coverage and protest against two black males being cuffed and removed from a Philly Starbucks for asking to go to the bathroom….
Starbucks Executive Chairman Howard Schultz told CBS This Morning Tuesday that closing the company’s 8,000 stores for a day of diversity training is just the start of several measures the company will be taking to deal with issues of unconscious bias after two black men were arrested in a Philadelphia Starbucks store.

The Philadelphia Mayor expressed displeasure at the way the incident was handled….Starbucks did NOT press charges against the two men involved…Starbucks regularly has people use their stores to meet people and offers his rest rooms for usage…

The reason that Starbucks lets you stay, chat, read and play with your devices while nursing a $2 Pike’s Place coffee, even providing free refills and free Wi-Fi, is this:
They found that just seeing a relatively-lively and apparently-busy café is what attracts the four-fifths of their business that is carry-out rather than consume-inside. People who drive or walk by what looks like a desolate, lonely shop aren’t tempted to come inside, even for take-out.

The comment about being a gathering place is on point….
But with the people come issues….
There is NO substitute for good and smart managers that are able to handle situations so they won’t end up in the media….
