While he goes on the expected rant AGAINST revelations by fired FBI Director James Comey…..Calling Comey a ‘slimball’ and that he should be prosecuted ?
Poll after poll points to the fact that MOST Americans believe Comey, that Trump is unfit to be President of the United States…..
That’s NOT the only place Donald Trump is losing….
Robert Mueller & Co. may have hit the ‘mother lode’ in confiscating documents and tapes from Trump’s longtime lawyer and bag man, Michael Cohn….And Most Americans also think Mueller should be pressing on in his job of investigation the 2016 help the Russian’s gave Trump and finding out if and what Trump and his people might have done illegal…..Bear in mind that Mueller has ALREADY got convictions and others to cooperate with his investigations into criminal activities….We still haven’t seen Trump’s taxes and new revelations of money being given from WHERE? to silence women that Trump has slept with keep coming….
Trump regularly knocks the media as ‘fake’…..But even there most Americans believe the media, NOT Trump…..
Of course being President isn’t about a popularity contest, something Donald J. Trump is losing everyday….
It’s about politics and governing…..
His governing skills are little to none….
His political skills are lacking, except for members of his adopted Republican party…..
His lawmaker ‘friends’? are increasing ignoring his wishes, even while they continue to say nice things about him….
THAT is a false win for the guy…..
A clear majority of Americans support special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election and alleged collusion with President Donald Trump’s campaign, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds.
The results show backing for inquiries into Trump’s orbit on several fronts.
Nearly 7 in 10 adults say they support Mueller’s focus on possible collusion with Russia. Sixty-four percent say they want the special counsel investigating Trump’s business activities. And a 58 percent majority supports investigating alleged payments by Trump associates to silence women who say they had affairs with him….
Zreebs says
Gallup’s tracking report has Trump with his highest ratings yet in 2018 – although this is before we found out about the raid of Cohen’s office.
jamesb says
If you go over the Real Clear Politics link on the front page?
Except for CG’s Rasmussen?
His disapproval numbers average around 55%
My Name Is Jack says
Way way too much is made out of this numbers “game.”
Suffice it to say that essentially at any given time Trumps approval number is somewhere between 40-45% and his disapproval number is between 55-60%.
And ,as requires constant reiteration here, Trump enjoys massive approval numbers among Republicans, massive disapproval numbers among Democrats, and moderate disapproval numbers among Independents.
Making a big deal about these few point swings every few weeks is,in my view, pointless.
Zreebs says
Yes RCP has a nice chart which shows how Trump’s numbers have risen. They are now at its highest levels in about a year.
We’ll see if that holds.
jamesb says
Gallup…..
President Donald Trump’s favorable rating, already low by historical standards, has dropped to 38% — while his unfavorable rating is at 59%…..

Like the rest of us?
James Comey ain’t perfect
But Kack’s Right
Props to the guy!
My Name Is Jack says
Comey should be honored.
Being called a “slimeball” by this pathological liar is an honor that one may be justly proud of.
Pot to kettle?
Scott P says
Trump has now pardoned Scooter Libby.
As far as I can see this is just him trying to send a message that he’s set to issue more pardons if need be.
Zreebs says
With the timing,,That is exactly how I see it Scott
My Name Is Jack says
Lots of people receive federal pardons.
Libby is neither more nor less deserving of one in my view.
Keith says
Of course he is sending a message, and the Republicans are once again — silent.
I see where Pajama Boy Blake has left Congress without paying back the money for his sexual harassment suit (80K plus).
Ah, Republican values.
Zreebs says
Personally, I don’t agree that presidents should be allowed to pardon anyone. And it has been abused before – like when Clinton pardoned Marc Rich.
jamesb says
The right to pardon isn’t going anywhere….
And yes…It can be abused….
As well as being the right thing to do….
Governor’s also have the right to do pardons….
My Name Is Jack says
It’s in the Constitution.
Ending it would require a Constitutional Amendment.
Not very likely I’d say.
As long as the power is there Presidents are going to use it and, yes, often to help wayward members of their party.
Since there are those here who believe that Trump is a”secret “ Democrat, the question arises ,why would a Democrat care about Libby , a Dick Cheney acolyte?
Zreebs says
I did not know that the ability to pardon was in the Constitution. By amendment?
Democratic Socialist Dave says
No, Zreebs, the power to pardon is in the original Constitution proposed by the Philadelphia Convention in 1787. It’s also discussed at several points in The Federalist Papers.
The power to grant reprieves and pardons is at the end of the first paragraph of Section 2 of Article II, the one that covers the executive branch. (Section 1 deals with the qualifications and selection of a President, and Section 2 with the President’s powers.)
Section 2.
The President shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states, when called into the actual service of the United States; he may require the opinion, in writing, of the principal officer in each of the executive departments, upon any subject relating to the duties of their respective offices, and he shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.

jamesb says
I’ll add to the DSD explanation ….
The President of the United States has the right to pick and choose whoever they want….
While there IS a procedure in the DOJ?
The President REALLY doesn’t have to follow that….
It IS his right to just pick and declare…
There was all sorts of complaints that Bill Clinton dining follow the procedure…
He didn’t…
It didn’t manner….
Zreebs says
Thanks Dave.
CG says
Everything Trump does in this realm is suspicious but Scooter Libby did get a raw deal.
Since Trump was talking to the legal couple of diGenova and Toensing and Libby is their client, they likely asked him to do this and he said sure.
CG says
He will probably pardon his old tv friend Blagojevich next, if he wants to stick it some more to Patrick Fitzgerald.
jamesb says
Let’s remember everybody…..
If Trump was to knock off ALL of the investigations?
State AG’s COULD pick up the prices as a plan B…..
Zreebs says
Let’s hope not, CG.
Scott P says
A quick deflection to still hang on to your stupid theory that Trump is a “secret Democrat”
CG says
I do not believe I have ever stated definitively that he is a “secret Democrat”, but clearly, he is not a traditional Republican. He’s out for himself. He has called himself a Democrat, an Independent, and a Republican over the years, and if he lives long enough, might cycle through them all again, but he has always been about himself first and foremost.
My Name Is Jack says
Well that’s more like plan x.
State AGs have no jurisdiction over federal crimes, have far fewer resources than federal prosecutors and are unlikely to want to jump into such investigations particularly if they are Republicans ,due to the backlash from their own Party.
I don’t see this as much of an option .particularly as regards Trump himself, and any crimes he may have committed as President.
jamesb says
NYS and Maryland AG’s has already been working on some of the same stuff Mueller had…
Yes they do not have the resources the FBI has
But with Mueller having a good amount of the leg work?
State AG’s could pick things up
Trump had prior tax and building issur
Cook ha the Medellin’s
Trump’s family has real estate issues
CG says
Nothing will ever come of state Attorneys General going after Trump criminally. jack is correct.
They will sue against his policies when they can, just like Republican AG’s did under Obama.
CG says
If Mueller is fired, it will create a political firestorm. Many Republicans in Congress will openly break with Trump, Mueller will be free to go on every television show in the country to say what he discovered and what the status of his findings were. The fact that there have already been guilty pleas and indictments of foreigners conspiring against the United States would make it look even worse to dismiss the whole thing as a “witch hunt.”
Ultimately, it would be up to the American people to decide if they cared that Trump fired Mueller or was obstructing justice, and they would have to determine that in the 2020 Presidential election.
Those who already dislike Trump will be as motivated as ever, but a lot of people just won’t care, even if they believe Trump is corrupt, they will only focus on their own paychecks, or own self-interests, etc, just like the mantra was in the 1990s.
jamesb says
I agree CG
The fallout would be HISTORIC
CG says
So, as tempted as he may be to try to find any avenue to do so, I do not believe Trump will fire Mueller. He has people telling him how much worse for him it might get if he does so.
So, whatever Mueller comes up with, Trump and his acolytes will dismiss as a “witch hunt.” He might pardon individuals, including relatives, but will bank on the belief that his base will stay with him and that people will care more about their own “issues” than his. He probably is being told that impeachment proceedings would shore up his support in front of 2020 and that might be correct.
Minus and complete and total “smoking gun”, there will never be enough Senate votes to convict him.
His approval numbers will have to fall into the low 20s, for removal by impeachment to become a possibility, and enough people fear Democrats enough to not let that happen.
My Name Is Jack says
Unless Mueller comes up with a real smoking gun,ie ,actual proof of Trump himself openly colluding with the Russians or personally authorizing the same, I see little chance that such will materially affect Trump any more than it already has.
Those who support him still will .Those who oppose him still will.
jamesb says
I disagree that Trump could weather the storm virtually untouched
20% Approval means he gets primaries
As I just said
If Pelosi is afraid of impeachment?
More House hearings
Democratic AG’s
Trump wounded and a Dem majority to deal with?
My feeling is he’d be unreelectable
CG says
He’s unlikely to ever fall into the 20s, job approval wise is the point.
The economy being perceived as strong is certainly a factor, but unlike past Republican Presidents, he certainly has a cadre of defenders who will just stick with him no matter because “he fights.”
If Democrats win a majority in the House and spend months on impeachment, only to see him easily be acquitted in the Senate (and he will gloat and taunt them a lot more than Bill Clinton did), it’s going to hurt the Democrats politically.
My Name Is Jack says
CG is right.
The country is way too divided for Trump to drop into the twenties absent a whole lot more than has come out so far..
Indeed ,I personally think that there is a hardcore third of the country that would stick with Trump no matter what Mueller finds.
CG says
They certainly would.
“Collude with Russia? So, what? Were any votes altered? We get involved in other countries elections all the time. Consultants make a lot of money in foreign elections. Obama did ads for the guy in France. How is this any different? The Deep State is just mad he won and wants revenge.”
That crowd of people, however large they are, just won’t care. Trumpism is actively working to erode all confidence in American institutions.
My Name Is Jack says
I would agree that a Mueller revelation would likely stir up a Republican nomination challenge(that might happen anyway).
I can’t see such being successful, however, as Trump will play the victim card and would likely prevail in winning the nomination.
I believe you are I sufficiently aware of the truly rabid support Trump has among a sizable number of people.
jamesb says
Nothing lasts forever….
Trump is NOT untouchable….
jamesb says
I get the impression Jack…. that you think Donald Trump IS impervious to ANY effort to remove him from office and that he will serve until 2024….
Do I have that right from your point of view?
My Name Is Jack says
No you’re not correct.
Your problem is that you refuse to this day to concede that Donald Trump is the Republican Party. You refuse to concede that most Republicans are not only conservatives but very strong conservatives who intensely dislike “libruls” (being so defined as anybody who verbally opposes Trump, who has, except for a small and shrinking minority coopted the conservative movement) and the media. You refuse to believe that these Trump people don’t care if he lies, don’t care about his Russian connections, ,don’t care about much of anything, but that he verbally lambastes that which they deplore. You seem to believe that his supporters are objective people who when confronted by the truth will act on it.They won’t.
Fortunately, while they represent a large part of the country, they do not represent the majority.
I believe there is a better than even chance that he loses in 2020.
Where we disagree is that you seemingly believe that Trumps supporters when confronted with the truth about what he is will turn on him and all of a sudden demand his removal from office. As I amplified on above I don’t believe that is realistic ,nor do I believe that is going to happen.
jamesb says
My feeling is as I have expalined….
Again…..
Like a accident building up?
The total weight of things will cause the car to go off the road sideways….
You are off topic with the Trump supporters…
I acknowledge they will stay with him…
That is you return point for ANY conversation about him…
You need not keep repeating it…
Yes they are dumb…But it’s their choice..
But the difference is AGAIN….
The collective Mueller, Cohen, and other guys shit, and Trump general fuck ups will make his tenure in office untenable….
It isn’t that they would demand his removal….
It’s just that his BEING in the White House simply won’t work….
They ALL want the guy to quit for the sake of the Presidency…
If they didn’t he’d be gone already…
My Name Is Jack says
So let me get this straight, you believe that the egomaniacal Trump will just up and quit because Mueller and the Democrats want him to?
jamesb says
I list more than those two things…..
And as I point out….
Like damn….
At SOME point it gives away….
You haven’t answered my question….
Do you think he can withstand ANYTHING/EVERYTHING in the next two years?
My Name Is Jack says
Do I think Trump will voluntarily leave office before his term is up?No I don’t.
Interestingly you only direct your uh”questions” to me.Why?Obsessed much?
You obviously do ,yet refuse too plainly state how this will happen..
Zreebs says
Jack,
You don’t often make naive statements, but this was one time that you did. Do you really not know why James typically directs his questions to you?
My Name Is Jack says
Never underestimate my naïveté !
I think I know what you’re going to say,but go ahead and give me your view.

Bonus Quote of the Day
“The Republican Congress now represents a party with very few significant defining principles other then the promotion of the president’s impulses at that moment.”
— Former Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH), writing in The Hill.
Politicalwire…
My Name Is Jack says
You believe that quote James?
It seems to run contrary to the line you have been advancing here that Republicans in Congress are increasingly taking Trump on.
jamesb says
No….
The Republican lawmakers HAVE embraced few of Trump’s wants…
Obamacare is still on the books…
There is no wall to speak of…
The lawmakers have pushed Trump to retreat on his trade policy….
They have passed a budget that has little to do with Trump’s
On the other hand?
They have given him a tax cut, that they actually wanted…
The House has shut down it’s probe of him…
So?
I do NOT wholly believe in the quote…
jamesb says
I did not point mostly to Trump
But to his friends , family and supporters IF the Mueller probes are derailed,….
In the aatosphere following such a drastic action?
Sure state AG’s in the two Democrsticstates I point to COULD go after Mueller targets
jamesb says
And after a huge fallout?
The AG’s would be emboldened to go ahead and DO SOMETGING
I submit that. The media would join would Democrats looking for political blood if Trump was able to disband or even pardon all involved…
This couldn’t just walk away
If it could ?
Trump would have fired and pardoned everyone ALREADY
My Name Is Jack says
I don’t think the public ,or anyone here but you, cares much about Trumps family and friends.
It was obvious that the conversation was about Trump himself.
A typical and well known obfuscation tactic by you when you paint yourself in a corner.
jamesb says
Trump’s family and friends are party of the underpinning of the man,…
Mueller is investigating them all
They will be party of the story
Bet on it!
jamesb says
It will touch on money in the end
And that money is tied up in Trump’s friends and family
My Name Is Jack says
Yes but that stuff goes back awhile.
He could easily play those kind of things out for years until he was no longer President, nor,in my view, would those type things resonate with the public at large ,who are more interested in any unlawful acts he committed as President.
Believing that a State AG investigation is in anyway tantamount to a federal investigation as to presidential misdeeds is not very realistic.
CG says
Is this the place to vent?
I know it is only April 13, and I am not supposed to #panic, but I could really stand to see the Chicago Cubs play better, especially during weekday games, when I can merely follow the play by play online.
That is all.

Breaking….
A Fedearl Judge in NY has denied Trump bag man Michael Cohen’s efforts to challange the FBI holding and going thru data, doucuments abd phone info …..

This report states that Congressman Joe Crowley is actively taking steps to replace Nancy Pelosi.
https://www.politico.com/story/2018/04/17/crowley-pelosi-house-democrats-526994
jamesb says
Yea CG
She was challaged before
You REALLY won’t let go of this?
CG says
You denied that this was happening or was under consideration.
You also do not grasp the factual differences between a conference election for leadership and the election for Speaker on the House floor.
jamesb says
No
I said the spot is her’s until
SHE does NOT want it….
She was challenged before as you pointed out
She STILL has the spot
My feeling is Crowley will NOT be allowed to steal her chance to sssume the Speakership next year
To do that would not be a good look
CG says
It would be an even worse look for your party’s partisans if she can’t get enough votes on the floor and a Republican becomes Speaker.
Then again, I have said that if you want to win the White House in 2020, winning control of any part of Congress would be something to avoid in the short term.
jamesb says
The control of the US House is NOT. Gonna be about Nancy Pelosi
No matter how hard you and other HOPer’s try it to be….
