Lawmakers from BOTH parties are NOT serious about granting the Trump campaign wish of paying for a grandeious ‘wall’ on the US/Mexico border….
Neither are they supporting other Trump wants such as defunding sanctuary cities or the state of California….
Trump has NEVER grasped the way the American Federal politiocal process works….
His campaign against it is done by trying to beat up on people….
THAT has NOT made his parties lawmakers happy….
On a most of Trump’s wants?
They have tried to go around him…..
We’ll see what happens in next few days….
Would he risk taking the blame for a Government shutdown for a wall that he would saddle the Amerivcan taxpayer with paying?….(Mexico ain’t paying a nickel for it)
The bill that Democrats and Republicans have worked out is waht Trump appaears to be trying to use to get a better ‘deal’ for what he wants…..
President Donald Trump is threatening to veto a massive government spending package over measures border wall funding, a senior White House official and two senior House Republican aides told The Atlantic. The president is also “upset” that the bill lacks a measure to defund sanctuary cities, both sources added.
“He certainly wants the wall money,” the senior White House official said. “And he knows the ink is not dry yet on the bill.”
Another White House official told The Atlantic that Trump’s comments about the border wall in particular indicate the president’s broader dissatisfaction with congressional leaders, who he believes have been stagnant on moving ahead with his core campaign promise.
All four officials spoke on condition of anonymity, citing the sensitive nature of the negotiations.
The $1.3 trillion omnibus currently includes $1.6 billion for “border security” measures, including more border agents and funding for the construction of wall prototypes, and just $641 million for the wall itself—far shy of the $25 billion Trump requested…..
The government is currently funded through Friday.
A senior GOP aide told HuffPost that the strongest argument Republicans have in convincing Trump is that he would draw 100 percent of the blame for a shutdown if he backed out of the omnibus deal now.
“It is no wonder why Tillerson called Trump what he called him,” the GOP source said, referring to reports that former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called the president a “moron.”
Neither Ryan’s office nor the White House immediately responded to a request for comment…
