A little visit to next Governor of New York State’s ex-wife….. who happens to be Robert Kenndy’s daughter……and the mother of Andrew’s three daughter’s…….

Kerry Kennedy has spent her life crusading for human rights, as a lawyer and as the president of the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice & Human Rights.

But when there’s a bridge in town named after your father the senator, an airport named after your uncle the president, and your former husband is running for governor of New York, all people seem to want to talk about is politics.

Ms. Kennedy, 51 years old, is at pains to steer clear of discussing the gubernatorial campaign of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, other than to say that she plans to vote “for the person who makes the best lasagna, and I think that’s Andrew.”

She sits for an interview in the Kennedy family offices on 43rd and Madison, pictures of her father, Robert; her uncle, John; her uncle, Ted; her grandfather, Joseph Sr.—staring from the walls.

With the death of Sen. Ted Kennedy and the retirement of his son Patrick at the end of this Congress, it will be the first time in more than 60 years that there will be no Kennedy in Washington. But Ms. Kennedy doesn’t see the family taking a step back from public life. Her brother Joe in Massachusetts, her cousin Caroline in New York and her brother Christopher in Illinois all considered Senate races in recent years, she said. And many in the clan campaigned for either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama during the Democratic presidential primaries in 2008.

“I think that there will be people in elected office,” she said.

Will that include her?

“Elective office is one of many ways to serve the community and the country. It’s one that I would consider at some point.”

But with three daughters—15-year-old twins Mariah and Cara, and 12-year-old Michaela—whose father is running for governor, that will have to wait.

“It’s hard to have both parents involved in elective office at the same time,” Ms. Kennedy said. “I really want to be their mother……”
