I just watched President Donald J. Trump admit on a presser that he got rolled by the Congress….
He was pissed….
It’s a Congress that is led by HIS party….
Worst?
The leaders of the majority House and Senate had to turn their backs on conservatieves in their party to gain Democratic support….
He LOST this….
He did a presser to vent…..
He has STILL not goy his head around the fact that he can NOT run the American government like he ran his New York Real Estate company…
The work on this 2018 spending bill was done by his STAFF….
Any thought that this was surprise to his STAFF is BULL SHIT….
The man said he’ll never sign a bill like this again….
Do NOT belive that for one moment ….
He was put in a place where he could NOT do a damn thing…
He couldn’t veto the bill….
He WILL get support from his supporters that he got money for Defense….
He WILL get support for complaining about his party….
But in the end?
He lost…..
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s tweets …..
Note….
He WAS right….
No one read the whole damn thing which is over 2,000 page long….

I just finished reading Russian Roulette, the new book by Michael Isikoff and David Corn on the Trump/Russian scandal.
While there is a lot of “stuff” about Trump and some odd business dealings with Russia, there is literally nothing close to a”smoking gun” indicating actual collusion with Russia.
Rather there is a lot of evidence that Putin ordered the various cyber attacks against Hillary and the Democrats due to his pesrsonal animosity toward her and his belief that Trump would be a more amenable negotiating partner.
The worst I could draw from it is that the Trump campaign itself was ham handed in dealing with the Russians and were trying to turn what was happening more to their benefit.Thats no “collusion” though.
There is simply nothing,in this book anyway, that reveals anything more than rumors from some Russian “sources” (the Steele memos) and some “encounters” between Trump associates with certain Russians that indicates any formal “collusion”between the Trump campaign and the Russians.

Is there a way to make comments on the Merkley story is do I have to make them on the Open Thread?
CG says
It’s not true that Trump’s approval numbers are lower than other recent Presidents have had.
People believe though, for now, that the economy is going very well, so he gets a boost from that. People were pleased with their tax cuts. In the past, we were told that is all that should matter when it comes to Presidents.
jamesb says
Up until now in against others in their terms, Trump’s IS lower CG…..
The flip is 60% majority DO NOT think he’s doinga good job….
THAT figure is beeding into the House races for the fall….
The propect for Trump getting to 50% is remote and he’s got Daniels beating him up daily and Mueller sitting in the wings….
But the worst thing for him?
IS HIMSELF….
CG says
I don’t think that’s the case. I think Obama’s numbers at this point in his first term were similar and Clinton’s were lower.
Zreebs says
James was correct and CG was wrong again. Trump’s approval numbers are very low relative to past presidents.

CG says
That link is over two months old.
Zreebs says
James, I still can’t post to the Merkley comments. Please fix it.
jamesb says
Working on it
Zreebs says
I could let James explain to you, but Trump’s approval ratings were 20 points lower than the next lowest president as two months ago. There is absolutely no chance that Trump has made up all of that difference in two months.
CG says
His number have gone up since January.
In order to accurately gage this, one would have to see a collection of polls from late March 1994 and late March 2010 and compare them to today. We know that the party in power took a shellacking in those two midterms and I think we can all also agree that GWB’s approval numbers in late March of 2002 were much higher than any recent President.
CG says
Rasmussen is the only polling outfit that does a 5 day tracking poll of Presidential JA. Gallup is down to weekly.
Whatever one thinks of Rasmussen, they were on the money in terms of the 2016 national popular vote (Clinton + 2). As of today, Trump is at 46% and they have made note recently how his numbers are slightly above what Obama had at this point in his Presidency.
jamesb says
Ha, ha, ha……
You’re quoting Rasmussen…..
REALLY?????
jamesb says
Yes his numbers have gone up from 35% to around 40%…..
But that STILL leaves the 60% NOT happy with him….

What do you think his numbers are gonna do after Mueller throws down on him sometime this Summer?
What do you think he’ll be at if he’s still around next year and the Dem’s have the House?
A ill wind is blowing and wave is building…
Can Trump survive both?
What will his numbers look like before the dam breaks?
jamesb says
All that and his continual ‘Johnson’ storyline running in the background….
Could he end up in Civil court ?
THAT would be another drag on him…
It has to NOT be fun being him right now….
Never mind the ‘great’ numbers, eh?
CG says
I don’t think the Stormy Daniels thing is going to change much. It’s already baked into the cake for him. People knew he was amoral. Many just don’t care. I find that upsetting of course.
Either people already hate Trump or they will overlook anything for him. Tremendous hypocrisy on both sides.
Scott P says
The “you remind me of my daughter” angle will probably help Trump with his evangelical base.
jamesb says
He, he, he….
Yea Right?…. on the daughter thing
Zreebs says
The daughter angle might help Trump with Evangelicals, but that recent increase in support among evangelicals might come down now that we know that Trump likes to be physically abused by women. Let’s face it, I don’t think that being physically abused is a common fantasy of many men. Perhaps Lindsay Graham – who knows -but relatively few others.
jamesb says
Gosh….
She just slapped him with magazine…
My Name Is Jack says
Evangelicals ,by their nature, are very rigid in their beliefs.
They’ve decided to stick with Trump through thick and thin.
Absent him committing a major crime,I see nothing to indicate they will ever abandon him.
“Fanaticism “ you might say?Yes that certainly exists here.
They are going to blame anything adverse to him on “liberals” and the “media.”
Zreebs says
That’s largely true, but Evangelicals would prefer not to think of their idol as someone who likes to get beat up by women that resemble his daughter. And the girly man won’t fight back against Daniels – or Putin.
jamesb says
We’ll see how Trump’s support plays as the women’s stories keep coming out….

Are you one of those “hypocrites” or is that term reserved for people who dislike Trump but whom you don’t like?
CG says
Whatever one wants to say about me, I am about as consistent as they come. No hypocrisy at all.
The people on the left who felt that character mattered when Bill Clinton was President and that it matters today, would not be hypocrites.
My Name Is Jack says
I dont care who Trump screwed nor who Clinton screwed.
I’m opposed to Trump not because of his assumed moral failings ,but because I think he is unfit to be President due to the manner in which he conducts himself, his mean spirited proclivities against those with whom he disagrees, his appointments, and his legislative agenda.
As for him and Stormy?I find it rather amusing but I have no feeling about his relationship with her or any other woman for that matter.
CG says
ok, that’s fine, but that makes you a bit different than james, who says whatever Clinton did was cool but whatever Trump did is a BIG BIG DEAL.
Scott P says
I don’t care who Trump screwed either. Though if he threatened any of his paramours or used campaign funds to silence them that is another matter.one that the vast majority of Republicans who always claimed “it wasn’t about the sex” with Clinton will continue to defend
jamesb says
The way Trump has handeled the women thing is a indication of who he is…..
As with Clinton…
It’s between him and his wife….
But Clinton got impeached for lying….
Trump is doing the SAME THING
CG says
Trump will have to be put under oath to see if he will pull a Clinton and lie under oath.
His lawyers seem to think that he is incapable of not lying under oath and they are probably right.
jamesb says
It down to one lawyer I hear
The guy thinks he do his own thing
That remains to be seen
My Name Is Jack says
Well Clinton ,according to the Republicans ,was impeached for lying under oath(presumably lying while not under oath would not be impeachable )
That’s why I can’t believe Trumps lawyers will let him testify under oath.
I doubt if the guy can help himself and if he does lie then ,using the Clinton precedent ,he would be liable to impeachment.
jamesb says
I don’t think he is gonna follow that advice Jack
The problem with him getting a lawyer is the guy thinks he go in a freelance Mueller’s people

But nonetheless, public opinion may run against it, just like it did on the Clinton matter.
jamesb says
Only if the new 2019 House vote’s
Unless Mueller REALLY. Has Trump dead to rights…
jamesb says
She has NEVER been a good campaigner….
But she has every reason to be a a bit pissed in finding out what she was against and how she won the majority of the vote and LOST….
She has only herself to blame in the end….
But Trump DID get help for the Russians….
Zreebs says
We were talking about Bill Clinton, James. Please try to follow the conversation. It is frustrating to have a conversation with someone who doesn’t understand what we are talking about.
CG says
At this moment, it’s unlikely his numbers are going to change much one way or another.
His JA is close to the percent of the national popular vote he received. That should equate to a rough midterm for Republicans and a far from certain reelection chance.
However, one has to be willing to at least acknowledge the full picture. There are a lot of people who might have reluctantly voted for Trump in the election, and who told pollsters they disapproved of him at the time, but voted for the “lesser of two evils” who at least to this point will say they are pleasantly surprised with his performance.
To some, the economy is ALL that matters. That is what saved Bill Clinton once upon a time,
jamesb says
The economy and Clinton was a politician , who was able to mesh with the OVERAL general public…..
Lets also acknowledge that Bill Clinton was about lying about fooling around with ONE woman…
We have a serial liar trying to stay in bed with the Russians, who flouted the rules, who making money off us taxpayers, and has a collection of women he’s lied about fooling arouns with his wife was carrying his child….
Trump is MILES deeper in shit that Bill Clinton….
While the media compares them….
THAT is simply NOT a fair comparison ….
CG says
The political narrative of Bill Clinton going back to his first Presidential run was that he lied about *many* women.
I don’t even know where your head is at.
CG says
The unfair comparison would be that there is no indication that Trump is carrying on an extra-marital relationship while currently in office, let alone with a subordinate.
Or that taxpayer funds and resources were used to procure women for him while he was running the Trump Organization.
jamesb says
You do NOT KNOW that CG….
It’s NOT my business but the guys wife cannot be happy with at least 3 women in the news says thing about her husband and money being exchanged….
CG says
I’m sure she is not any happier than Hillary, but all are doing what they think they have to.
(although we were told so much during the 90s that Europeans have a far more sophisticated, lesseiz fair attitude about such things)
jamesb says
“Cambridge Analytica dispatched dozens of non-U.S. citizens to provide campaign strategy and messaging advice to Republican candidates in 2014, according to three former workers for the data firm, even as an attorney warned executives to abide by U.S. laws limiting foreign involvement in elections,” the Washington Post reports.
Said one: “We knew that everything was not above board, but we weren’t too concerned about it.”
CG says
My own opinion, which does not change regardless of who is in office, is that while redemption and forgiveness may be possible for those who realize they need it and ask for it, that someone who will cheat on their spouse is also someone who will cheat in business or cheat the country.
If their marital vows meant so little, the oath of office might as well.
CG says
There are people “not happy” with Trump that nonetheless “approve” of his job performance.
I don’t get that outlook myself and I disapprove of his job performance, but it does exist, and it’s pointless to ignore something just because it does not fit one’s own narrative.
jamesb says
Jack point is well taken…..
Republican lawmakers have little respect and patience with him , but helped on the tax bill….
THAT appears to be IT….
The spending bill saw then lawmakers of botrh parties disregard him….
People answering polls are a whole different story….
CG says
The Omnibus thing from last week was written in conjuction with Mick Mulvaney and Trump’s staff.
The Republican leadership swallowed hard to give Trump what they thought he wanted and what would be able to work out a deal, since the genesis of all of this was the short term deal cut in September in which Trump deliberately kicked the Republicans out to cut a deal with “Chuck and Nancy.”
Then, after political backlash, the Republicans in Congress saw him attempt to throw them under the bus. They should have expected it, but instead of their disregarding his wishes, they seem to feel like they have to defer to him on matters like that.
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah,well they voted for it.
CG says
Rasmussen was the only outfit to correctly get the outcome of the national vote.
I see no reason why they would be suspect nationally.
jamesb says
I do…..
CG says
how and why?
Feelings are just feelings
jamesb says
When people actually VOTECG?
It comes down to basic feelings….
Don’t kid tourself…
CG says
But if you are analyzing polling outfits, it helps to actually have real data and look at the real track record.
The 2016 scorecard of the national popular vote would indicate that Rasmussen got it more right than anyone else. (Clinton + 2)
jamesb says
Ras don’t count much for this dog or a good amount of others….
CG says
Ok, but you give absolutely no indication why. It’s just your “feelings.”
The same with how you never explain why you are a Duke basketball fan. It’s fine if you want to be, but Duke is about as branded with “elitist Republicans” as you can get, and Grayson Allen looks a lot like Ted Cruz.
(Go Loyola Chicago! The view from the bandwagon is great!)

Zreebs says
I’m sure Rasmussen sometimes gets it right, but the do a lot of polls and their overall record is average at best. They slso typically overstate the GOP support. Even if Trump has picked up substantially in the polls from two months ago, he is still significantly less popular than Ford – who was is second to last place.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office allowed federal deportation officers to enter the jail it operates and interview four inmates this month in violation of the agency’s pro-immigrant sanctuary policies, officials said.
The interviews occurred March 7 and 8, around the time that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers visited San Francisco County Jail and interviewed an inmate there in a breach of the city’s sanctuary rules, which restrict local cooperation in deportation efforts.
That incident prompted an apology from San Francisco Sheriff Vicki Hennessy….
